(Leftl After timing out on Saturday, Raymond Peters came back to finish fifth on Sunday. (Abovel Jesse Wellensteln overheated on Saturday but rebounded to finish ninth on Sunday. "Today, it was very, very difficult," said Crosset. "Today, it was possible to get five or zero in every section. The first loop I get 25, and the last loop I get three, the difference is incredible. The first loop I have no luck - the last loop I have a little luck." Crosset took his sixth win of the season with 36 poi~ts, with Bell in second with 37. Aaron was third with 60 and Florin and Peters followed with 81 each. eN (Abovel Ryon Bell had a couple of strong showings, going 3-2. (Right! Crosset topped the high-scoring event with 73.5, followed by Aaron with 85 and Bell with 94. Canadian Wilson Craig and Floridian Chris Florin rounded out the top five with 123.5 and 124.5, respectively. New York's Ray Peters was disqualified on time, while the heat overcame Jozef Topor-Madry and Jesse Wellinstein. On Sunday, Ryon Bell had the hot hand, jumping to an early lead over Crosset and Aaron under slightly milder conditions. Temperatures for the day were forecast to be four to five degrees cooler and organizers had shortened the day's loop and thrown out one section to help eliminate Saturday's time problems. Aaron's troubles started early with a disaster on section three, a difficult section that required the riders to launch from a small rock-platform, across a gap and up onto an off-camber rock face. The launch had to be perfect to land in exactly the right spot. Bell and Crosset were the only clean rides on the first lap, while Aaron misjudged the launch and fell just short, collecting a five. Aaron redeemed himself, however, at section nine, a "Champ-only" section with a series of vertical rock steps and gaps with very short runs. Aaron took the only first-lap clean (in fact, Aaron scored a clean on all three rides), while Bell cased it on a step for a five and Crosset footed through for a three. At the end of loop one, Bell posted a 20-point first lap and took a fivepoint lead over Crosset and Aaron, each with 25. Peters was having a EX/SPRTSMN: I. Noel Smage (II); 2. David Cole (14); 3. At the end of lap two, Crosset edged two points closer with an eightpoint loop score, compared to Bell's 10. Aaron dropped from contention with a 20-point lap. Bell entered the final lap with a three-point edge and maintained a solid and stingy ride, arriving at the next-to-Iast section, section 13, with only two single dabs. "Section 13 was the one that got me," Bell said of his only third-lap disaster. "' was on two points going into the section and was all excited and rode up to the top of the big step and there was a tree kind of in the center of the exit and I hit it with my front wheel and it knocked me backwards off the step for a five. , couldn't believe that I did it." Bell turned in seven points for his final lap and could only wait at the finish for Crosset's final score. The answer came almost 45 minutes later, when Crosset arrived at the finish with a three-point card - all stop dabs - good enough for a onepoint win. SR 50: I. James W. Fox (28): 2.
