STORV AND PHOTOS BV JOHN BETHEA SAN BERNARDINO, CA, JUNE 2 collision between two front-runners in the first 250cc Pro moto and a solo spill by another leader in the second paved the way for Greg Schnell to sweep the class, while he nursed his own wounds in the 125cc challenge as round two of the Yamaha Dealers Series was staged at Glen Helen Raceway Park, with another record turnout of 530 riders vying for individual and team honors. Taking a brief break from the AMA National Championship trail, Schnell brought his Yamaha of Troy entries back to his home track and started the day's affairs by taming the troops in the 125cc Pros, which made him appear to be the odds-on favorite for to the pits. O'Connor, with an injured wrist, was out for the day. Schnell took the lead and won, but he soon found himself in another tight battle in the second moto when Thousand Oaks Kawasaki jockey Tim Langdon, who had placed second in moto one, climbed into the lead of the second moto and appeared determined to squelch all comers. However, midway through the moto, while running solo in the lead by about a tick or two of the second hand on the clock, Langdon missed the launch on an infield tabletop and slid off the side. His awkward landing produced a compound fracture above the ankle, putting his summertime racing career on hold. Mike Sleeter, on a North County Yamaha, came in with second place after a first-moto third for the runner-up finish. Fowler's day was not entirely ruined by the 250cc Pro encounter. He was able to return and claim an overall in the Vet Expert contest, while the Senior Expert win again fell to the favored Ron Turner, on a Yamaha.
