the bike even more tractable than it
already was; it was now almost
impossible to stall. The powerful bike
just kept plugging away up the hills,
eventually getting me to the top of
them all. I hate to say it, but I certainly abused the heck out of the bike slipping the clutch, dragging the rear
brake, etc. - and it threatened to boil
over if I didn't get my speed back up,
but it was all this desert guy could do
to just get through all that
mud. Eventually, the
course dried out enough
that I could maintain
some sort of forward
momentum to keep cool
air flowing through the
radiators. Needless to
say, I was certainly glad
to see the checkered flag,
and Ty was just as glad
to see his bike come
back into the pits in one
piece.
After all was said and
done, I came away from riding Ty's bike feeling much the same
way that I had after riding Kiedrowski's DR-Z: I was expecting something
perhaps more than I could handle,
but quite the opposite was true. Ty's
bike was anything but a handful. It
was instead one of the best off-road
bikes I've ever ridden, and to make
things even sweeter, 1 got to ride it on
one of the best tracks in the world.
What could've been better?
