"The big bike just flies," Libhart
said, "but it's hard to see where the
timers are up there, because you are
going so fast.·
Watson was up next.
"Dad put a new fuel pump on the
800, and changed the jetting," Watson said. "The 540 is running a lot
faster than the 800 for some reason.·
Watson lined up on the far right
side and let it rip. After a great
launch, Watson's bike hit the rev-limiter after the canyon jump, but he was
awesome everywhere and stunned
the competition with a 5.506-second
time.
"It ran good - it floated the valves
because we were geared a little low,
but it turned out great,· Watson said.
Strank tried to regain the top spot,
and had an excellent start. However,
it went bad at the 270-foot mark
when it nearly looped him out, and he
had to shut it down. He would finish
fourth. Large had a few minor problems, improving to sixth with a
6.077-second run.
Then Disbennett made his final run.
Disbennett lined it up in the far
right rut and really nailed the start.
The clutch held together and the bike
pulled strong all the way to the lights.
He kept the Triumph in the groove to
climb to second place with a 5.806.
"We just couldn't get past that
doggone Watson today, in either
class," Disbennett said. "We were
pretty close today.·
James Wolfe cracked the top 10
on the day's final ride. Watson now
has a winning streak gOing.
"My 540 was just awesome today,
Watson said. "My dad won the 800
for us, getting the bike right.·
Disbennett and Libhart rounded
out the podium.
