Lincoln Trail Motorsports Horton, Pulley Increase Power By Nlloo OaRA/'iCZVK CASEY, IL, MAY 26 A $3000 Pro-Am cash purse, Moose Racing contingency, and hoJeshot awards brought 330 riders out for day one of Lincoln Trail's Double-X event. M&M Concessions treated first-moto holeshot winners to a lemon shakeup and a comdog. The cash purse was divided between three premier classes: 125cc A, 250cc A, and Four-Stroke. Roy Horton and Dustin Pulley both poured on the power to claim their share of the purse by finishing in the top five in every mota in all three classes. Horton aced both Four-Stroke motos. Alex Rossetto picked up the first-moto holeshot Lincoln award. Horton passed Rossetto in a whoop section and checked out. The battle for second was close, as Jason Brewington and Pulley went across the finish in second and third. In the second moto, Derek Leist was first around turn one, followed by Dave Espinoza and Horton. Espinoza took the lead; then he and Horton bumped in a turn and Horton moved into first. Horton (I-I) took the overall, with Espinoza (4-2) and Pulley (3-4) following, Twenty-nine 125cc A riders were hungry for their share of the cash purse. Moto wins went to Jason Brewington (1-6) and Dustin Pulley (4-1), but the overall went to Robert Motsinger (2-2), Motsinger started moto one with the holeshot, and then he, Brewington and Kevin lampe battled for the lead. Brewington passed into first and stayed there, and Motsinger took second. Pulley kicked off moto two with the holeshot and rode a steady pace for the win. Derek Leist, Motsinger and Horton fought for second; Motsinger finished second to secure the overall win. Lampe crossed the finish first in both 250cc A motos. Brandon Roberts picked up the holeshot award, but Lampe took the lead in the double-double after the start. Then Horton passed into second to challenge Lampe, despite getting pelted by his roost the entire mota. Horton's pressure forced Lampe to ride perfectly to get the moto win. In the second mota, Lampe started in front and stayed there, but not without a fight. Espinoza battled lampe all moto but came up short across the finish. lampe (I-I), Horton (2-4), and Pulley (4-3) rounded out the top three. Shawn Lawhead dominated the 85cc Senior class with two big mota wins. Andrew Dewees picked up the holeshot award, but Lawhead quickly took the lead and checked out. Lawhead led the second moto from wire to wire and won by a comfortable 20-second margin. Lawhead (1-1). Rogers (2-2), and Chris Weber (5-4) filled the podium. In 125cc B action, Adam Robinson won both motos, Keith Grant grabbed the lemon shake-up and corndog holeshot award, with Chad Canter and Robinson following. Robinson was all over Grant and found room for the pass on the double-double on lap two and never looked back. In mota two, Canter beat everyone to the first turn, but Robinson was right on his tail. Again, Robinson passed into first and ran away with the win for the overall. Jeff Jennings (2-2) and Zack Hollingsworth (3-3) followed. Results 50 JR: I, CoUn Hunter (KTM); 2. Cllieb Hunter (KTM): 3. Dade City Raceway Garlin the Great By CRAIG JOHNSON cm, DADE FL, MAY 26 The Metro Racing Florida Vintage Series visited Dade City Raceway for round seven of the eight·race series. The race was held on Saturday night and ran with the regular motocross classes. The night was filled with fun and excitement, as the riders did not have to contend with the heat of the day, as at so many other rounds, One rider that really enjoyed himseif was Ed Garlin, who took both moto wins in the GP Two 250cc/500cc A class. Garlin took the holeshot in moto one and ran away from the pack. Moto two saw another Garlin holeshot. Joel Nicholson was not going to let Garlin get away so quickly, as he had in the first moto. Nicholson kept up with Garlin's pace for the first three laps. The battle was over when Nicholson stalled his machine in a corner. Garlin took the win, over Nicholson, Ed Sherry Jr, and Dave Hodge, This was Garlin's first win of the year, and it felt good. "I like this night track, - said Garlin, "I feel right at home on it." Dave Ellis took both holeshots in the Vintage 250cc/500cc A/B contest on his 1974 YZ360. Woody Graves kept Ellis honest in both motos and only finished a bikelength behind to claim the runner-up spot. With only a one-point lead coming into this round, points leader Matt Kretschmer was unable to attend. Graves was second in the series coming into this round but left with a comfortable margin going into the next and final round. First-time racer John Wilbur won the first GP 250cc/500cc C moto. The second moto was a little more exciting, as there was no first-turn pile-up, as in the first mota. Jay Smith put his Yamaha out front and won the moto. Wilbur took his 1979 Honda to second place and claimed the overall. Smith only managed a fourth-place finish in moto one, as he was caught up in that pile-up. Mike Bobar, Carl Debas and Wenda II Burke rounded out the top five overall. Wilbur also raced the GP Three Open class and placed a very respectable second. Greg Schaffer dominated both motos on his 1986 CR125. Jay Estes rounded out the podium in third, The Pre- I 983 Open Age class was hotly contested, with all sizes of machinery from 125s to 250s and 500s. Mick Oliver took his 1979 Suzuki 125 to a 1- I score for the overall win, beating all those big-bore machines. Second place was claimed by another 125cc rider - Tim Boryk, on an '83 Honda. Nick Beck claimed third overall over series regulars Ed Sherry Jr, and Ed Sherry Sr. Marty Mohler and Gary Hooper, both on CZs, traded moto wins in the GP One Over 50 class. Mohler won the all·important second moto to claim the overall over close rival Hooper. Both are always trading victories, so nobody ever knows which of them will win. Results V1NT 250/500 NB; I.
