Thor/Parts Unlimited Northeast Classic Motocross Series Round 4: Broome-Tioga Sports Center STORV AND PHOTOS BV JIM P. SANDERSON BINGHAMTON, NY, JUNE 2 n ne could probably say Damien Plotts dominated all the classes he entered at round four of the Thor/Parts Unlimited Northeast Classic Motocross Series, held at the Broome-Tioga Sports Center in Binghamton, New York. The 125cc and 250cc Open Pro/Expert classes got to ride the full Broome-Tioga National track, while the balance of the classes ran the normal, abbreviated amateur racecourse. Plotts' goal for the weekend was to keep his win streak going in the superfast 250cc Pro/Expert class. Plotts did just that - and more. Plotts has won every 250cc Pro/Expert moto so far after four of five rounds in the series and, going into the final round, he leads the class points chase by seven over veteran Suzuki pilot Barry Carsten. Plotts also had another perfect day in the Over 25 Expert class, scoring another 1-1. Plotts now leads that class in series points by a whopping 18 points over RRP teammate Ty Wallace. Though his performance hasn't matched what he's done in the 250cc class, Plotts has won six out of a possible eight motos so far in the Over 25 class, scoring two overalls and a second and third overall after four of five rounds. As if that wasn't enough, Plotts also won the extremely competitive quarter-liter class with a 2-1 tally. Plotts traded wins with Factory Connection's superfast Honda pilot Ryan Mills, who ran away to the first-moto win but gated poorly in the second and had to work his way to the front, eventually finishing third. Mills had to win the second moto to get the overall but ran out of time. Bromley Suzuki's Carsten currently leads the 125cc Pro/Expert class in series points by eight over Plotts. Mills is third in points going into the 52 JULv3,2002' II: U c I _ final round at the Walden Playboy Motocross Club in Walden, New York. When the gate dropped for the first 250cc Open Pro/Expert moto, Stephen Desiderio and Mills rounded the first tum ahead of the 34-rider field. Mills quickly made his way to the point position, dropping Desiderio to second. Rounding out the top five were California's Dennis Stapleton, Ryan Tuerck and Plotts. When the leaders came off the Broome-Tioga National hill, the top five were Mills, Stapleton, Tuerck, Plotts and Carsten. Mills had a six-second advantage after 2 1/2 laps. Stapleton was hanging on to second, but behind him Plotts was already up to third, having relegated Tuerck to fourth. Carsten still held fifth. By lap three, Mills had added another second to his lead, while Plotts had relegated Stapleton to third and set his sights on Mills. Plotts continued to close the gap on lap four and carne off the National hill on the last lap with the lead. Tuerck was now third, with Carsten fourth and Stapleton fifth. Plotts won, followed by Mills, Tuerck, Carsten and Stapleton. Plotts made things a little easier for himself in the second moto by najJjng the holeshot, ahead of Bruce Ryan Mills (167), Carsten (66) and Glnolfi (461) lead the start of the first 250Cc Open Pro/~rt moto, ahead of Plotts (73), Dennis Stapleton (162), Ryan Tuerck (471), Hunter (505) and Tom Burton (483), In Binghamton, New York. Stratton, Carsten and Chris Hunter. Mills gated just outside the top five but made his way to the front very quickly and had second after half a lap. The running order was now Plotts, Mills, Hunter, Carsten and Mike Dougherty Jr. The top five remained unchanged until lap four, when Dave Ginolfi passed Dougherty to claim fifth. Mills closed the gap on . Plotts and tried desperately to make a pass, but the big-bore thumper kept pulling Mills' CR250. Plotts held off Mills for the win. Rounding out n _ _ so RAP's Damlen Plotts (73) leads the second 125cc Pro/~rt moto at round four of the Thorl Parts Unlimited Northeast Classic, trailed by Barry Carsten (66) and Chris Hunter. the top five were Hunter, Carsten and Ginolfi. Plotts' 1-1 rides earned him the overall. Mills' 2-2 tally was good for second, and Carsten's consistent 4-4 finishes garnered third overall. Ginolfi led the pack off the start of the first 125cc Pro/Expert moto, with Mills, Plotts, Dougherty and Carsten in tow. Ginolfi tried to hold Mills off as best he could, but Mills made the pass for the lead before the end of the first lap and quickly pulled away. Mills had a four-second lead by lap two. Plotts was up to second, Ginolfi dropped to third, and Carsten and Hunter were fourth and fifth. Mills just kept pulling away and finished the moto with a wheelie to the checkers and a 10-second advantage. Trailing him were Plotts, Carsten, Hunter and Ginolfi. Carsten led the start of the second moto, followed by Plotts, Hunter, Ginolfi and Stratton. By lap three, the running order was Plotts, Carsten, Hunter, Mills and Ginolfi. Mills kept charging and made his way to third by the last lap. Plotts took the checkered flag with a 3 1/2-second lead. Rounding out the top five were Carsten, Mills, Hunter and Tuerck. Plotts earned another podium with his 2-1 rides. Mills' 1-3 tally was good for runner-up honors, while Carsten's 3-2 finishes earned him the remaining tier of the 125cc Pro/Expert podium. eN Brae..e-rlOlla Sports teate. Binghamma, Ne.
