AMA/Chevy Trucks 250cc National Championship Motocross Series Round 5: Budds Creek MX Park set the record in the 250cc class in 1978, winning the first eight rounds). Carmichael also becomes the firstever three-time 250cc motocross winner at Budds Creek. In what is quickly becoming his trademark style, Carmichael shot into the early lead of each of the 30minute-plus-two-Iap motos and never looked back. Team Yamaha's Tim Ferry kept Carmichael honest in the first moto, but by the time the second moto rolled around, Carmichael had the rough and rutted course dialed and finished out the moto with a morethan-30-second lead over the runnerup rider - in this case, Amsoil/Dr. Martens/Journeys/Honda's Mike LaRocco. "Things are working good," Carmichael said. "My bike's awesome, and I got great starts today. This first turn is pretty scary, so I really concentrated on my starts. While the scenery may have changed along the way, the results have stayed the same - Glen Helen, 1-1; Sacramento, 1-1; Mt. Morris, 1-1; and Southwick, 1-1. Unfortunately for his competitors, there seems to be no end in sight, either, as the Team Honda rider posted yet another perfect 1-1 score aboard his Chad Watts-tuned factory CR250R - this time, in front of the 17,305 sundrenched spectators on-hand at the beautiful and scenic Budds Creek MX Park. With his latest two-moto sweep, Carmichael becomes only the second rider in the series' history to open up with five-straight wins (Bob Hannah R 10 JUNE 26, 2002' c U a I _ n __ !IS
