CMC Skagit Powersports Pac West Nationals Round 2: Albany Motorsports Park Ryan Hufhnan was the dominant Pro-class performer at round two of the CMC Skagit Powersports Pac West Nationals, scoring the overall 125cc and 250cc Pro victories, both with 1·1 scores. STORY AND PHOTOS BY CLAY LIGHT ALBANY, OR, JaNE 9 f there were any doubts regarding Ryan Huffman's comeback bid after the opening round of the CMC Pac West Nationals, surely they were silenced after round two at Albany Motorsports Park. Huffman decimated the Professional-class competition, posting the 125cc and 250cc Proclass wins, both with 1- 1 sweeps. Huffman aced both 125cc Pro motos to top the podium, while Oregon's Tiger Lacey (4-2) finished second. Washington's Jason McCormick, in only his second race back from a serious knee injury, placed third with a 3-3 tally. Huffman was unstoppable in the 250cc Pro class and was trailed by Lacey, who finished second in both motos, and Oregon's Tony Graves. Huffman, riding one of the many Yamaha YZ250Fs in a field of 22 riders, grabbed the lead at the start of the first 125cc Pro moto, followed by Kawasaki-mounted Mike Corder, Evan Laughridge, McCormick and Ryan Metzler. Laughridge moved up qUickly to trail Huffman and, by lap two, held the lead - but only briefly. Huffman, from Roseburg, Oregon, regained the lead shortly into the following lap and maintained it for the duration. The top four - Huffman, Laughridge, McCormick and Corder put large ground on the rest of the field, although Corder's KX eventually sputtered to trackside, victim of what was later diagnosed as a faulty sparkplug cap. This moved Metzler up into the position after displacing Tyler Fick, until he also encountered problems and fell to midpack. Lacey, who was dead last off the line after his machine blubbered, was the fastest rider through traffic, picking off numerous riders per lap, getting around Chaun McAlister for fourth late in the moto. That was as far as the 19-year-old Arenacross phenom would get, though, as Huffman, Laughridge and McCormick had substantial ground on the rest of the field. Lacey, McAlister, Dan Moore, Fick and Ryan Terlecki filled out the top eight. American Suzuki/Answer/Maxxis· backed RM rider Lacey had the fastest throttle at the unleashing of moto two, followed by McAlister and Huffman. Then Huffman passed Lacey for the lead shortly into lap one. McCormick ran third, followed by Laughridge and Corder. McCormick wasn't far off the leaders' pace and ran a solid third, breaking free from a Corder/Laughridge/McAlister swapfest four fourth, which the Team Green/Pro Circuit-backed Corder would control to the finish. Up front, Huffman and Lacey remained close, but the outcome was in favor of the No Fear/Scott/Washougal Motocross Park/Roseburg Cycle Center-backed Huffman. Huffman (1-1) snared his first of two overall wins, followed by Lacey (4-2), McCormick (3-3), Laughridge (2·5) and McAlister (5-6). Lacey, Honda CRF450R-mounted Graves and Idaho's Jimmy LaMastus thundered to the head of the field in the first 250cc Pro moto but, despite the worst pick on the gate (with an obstructed view of tum one), Huffman found his way into second out of turn two. LaMastus, riding the booming KTM 520, moved past Graves into third. Graves, Terlecki and Washington's Billy Binckley battled for fourth. While Huffman eventually broke free from Lacey, the battle for third was one of the day's best between LaMastus and Laughridge. Late in the moto, both Laughridge and Graves slipped past LaMastus.
