Heavyweight Supersport is the MRA equivalent of the AMA Superstock class. with "close
to street bike" limited modifications and pre·
dominantly 750cc four-cylinders.
From the green flag, Burke got an excel-
lent launch but almost immediately put his
hand up and pulled off with bike trouble. This
handed the lead to Glenn Conser, followed
closely by Mike Applehans. Alex Zinaich,
John Carver (who rocketed up to fourth from
the sixth row), and Victor Mokler. Entering
tum five for the first time, Carver took a stab
at the inside of Zinaich and was able to claim
third. Applehans retired from the race in tum
seven. handing a huge lead to Conser, with
second going to Carver and third to Zinaich.
Up front, Conser was enjoying a two-tum
lead, but Carver was on a charge. This was a
Suzuki contingency race, with cash up for
grabs. and everyone wanted some. By the end
of lap three, Carver was all over Conser, with
a sizabie gap back to Zinaich and Sims. Sims
got by Zinaich at the crossed flag to claim
third, while Carver outbraked Conser on the
