swapped second, with Lough taking second overall. Wood earned third overall, followed by Martin and Grimes. The Over 25 A contest was also a close battle between Neese, Lough and Martin. Martin finished second in moto one after edging past Lough through the triple rollercoasters on the final lap. Lough got the moto-two holeshot on his KTM. After a five-lap war, Neese secured the lead over the uphill double on the back side. Lough caught up in traffic and fought off a late-moto charge from first-moto fourth-place finisher Chad Newton, who rode his heart out on an underpowered YZ250F to secure third in moto two - only to be beaten by Martins (2-4) for third overall. In the 125cc A class, Newton, owner of Total Control Suspension and sponsored by Triangle Cycles and Liquid Performance, got his revenge, taking second overall. Newton was all over Neese, never letting him more than a bike length away. Lough and Martin swapped third and fourth in the two motos. Wood, who finished a strong second in moto one, had a terrible start and had to settle for sixth in moto two. The 85cc (12-13) and (14-15) classes were run combined. In moto two, William Bryant pulled the holeshot, with Glen Martin in hot pursuit, both riding in the 14-15 class. On the first lap, in the back whoops section, the two locked bars and went down, blocking the whoops. Around the outside came Brad Haar, a 12-13 rider, who then checked out on the field! Martin got up and battled back to second at the end, followed by David McClain, Connor Clifton and Greg Byrd Jr. Haar went on to win the class overall with a 1-1 tally as well as beating the older boys. However, the boys took revenge in the Supermini 80cc-105cc (12-15) contest. In two close battles, Martin and Bryant swapped moto wins. Martin blazed on to the overall. Meanwhile, McClain and Haar traded third and fourth, with McClain taking third overall. In the second 250cc B moto, KTM rider Wesley Sapp and Tobin Farr had it easy out front. The battle was for third, as Aaron Bond, Anthony Pennisi and Tom Czyse diced back and forth for four laps. In the whoops at the start of the final lap, Czyse crashed out while running third; he quickly recovered to salvage fifth. Pennisi gladly took over third and Bond chased him closely. Over the triple rollercoasters, Czyse came back to capture fourth, but in the whoops, Czyse got out of control; the bike threw him off and then hit the berm and launched itself into the lake. Czyse had a better day fishing than racing: He caught a CR250 with a log chain and a tractor. The overall finishing order was Sapp, Farr, Bond, Pennisi and Czyse. AMA Northeast Amateur National Championship Series Round 1: Path Valley Speedway Robinson Rolls to the Wins By LEN BREECH SPRING RON, PA, MAY 25 fter having problems remaining upright during the early part of the season, Robinson's Florist5/ Robinson's Electric/Mom £, Popsponsored Brandon Robinson has put together a good May, capping it off with a pair of wins at the Black Arrow Racing/Roxy's Cycle/M£'S Cyclessponsored Northeast National Championships held at Path Valley Speedway. Robinson held off several hot shots to win the 85cc DTX and 85cc Modified (7-11) classes. Several other riders won two classes, with Patrick Jacob5en destroying the 65cc DTX and Modified classes by a straight in both. Joe Dohm just nipped track owner John Winsett Sr. for the Over 40 win and then won the 500cc Two-Valve contest. Former 85cc National champ John Lewis A n • _ s took the three 250cc classes. just edging Brian Phillips for the 250cc Modified win and battling Chris Klinefelter for the 250cc A win. The races got off to a rather delayed start a5 track crews had overwatered the track. With Path Valley's "normal" Memorial Day Weekend weather - "very humid and good chance of rain" - a fair sprinkle could have ended the races. The finals were originally scheduled for 10 laps, but by the time the finals came around, it was six laps for 125s and under, and eight laps for the rest. In the 85cc DTX final, Robinson took the lead off the fourth turn, with Matthew Weidman, Austin Greenland and the rest of the field following. On the second lap, James Rispoli slipped into third, but Greenland emerged from a three-wide battle off the fourth turn with second place. While the others stayed very close, Greenland Path Valley Sp_dway: Bob Sweeten (71 U) and Dallas Baer (34A) battle it out in the Over 30 class at the opening round of the AMA Northeast Amateur National Championship Series In Spring Run, Pennsylvania. pressured his buddy right to the end. The 85cc (7 -11) final featured most of the same players, with Robinson again taking the lead from Weidman, Greenland, 65cc winner Patrick Jacobsen, and Evan Baer. This time it was Greenland, Weidman and Jacobsen fighting for second, which again went to Greenland by the end of the third lap. In the closing lap5, Jacobsen moved up to pressure Weidman for third. In the 85cc (12-15) class, Chris Miller took the lead from Mike Radley, Shane Narbonne and R.J. Hart. Narbonne took second on the second lap and then started battling with Miller for the lead. The same two had gone at it during their heat, with Narbonne winning; this time, Miller held off aU the challenges for the win. Former 85cc National Champion John Lewis jumped into the 250cc DTX lead at the end of the first lap and pulled away from Gary Conklin, Alan Stay, Gene Wisniewski and Jonathan Jordan. Conklin was safe in second, while Jordan took third at the end of the third lap. In the 250cc Modified contest, Lewis had to park his normal ABBA Services/Mom £, Dad/Bromley's Cycle-sponsored bike due to ignition problems, and he ran hi5 DTX bike. He grabbed the lead from Brian Phillips, Conklin, Brian Hazel and Jordan. Phillips put his 450cc Honda into the lead entering turn one on lap four, but Lewis retook it off the second tum on the fifth lap. Phillips tried to retake it, but he couldn't come up with the move. Conklin won the 125cc Modified contest, while Phillips took the Sportsman final. Bob Sweeten and Dallas Baer stayed several lengths in front of Bill and Joe Bromley's family feud for third at the start of the Over 30 final. After four laps of probing, Baer put the Battlefield H-D-sponsored Rotax into the lead off the second tum. Two
