California Racing Club Ounestown Series Round 4: Los Angeles County Raceway PatrIck Teny won both the 125cc and 250cc Intennediate classes at round four of the Califomia Racing Club Dunestown Series. STORV AND PHOTOS BV GREG ROBERTSON PALJIIDALE, CA, MAY 26 rn atrick Terry used a pair of identiIr cal 2-1 scores to top the 125cc and 250cc Intermediate classes on the Saddle Glen track at Los Angeles County Raceway during round four of the 25th annual running of California Racing Club's J.B. Memorial Dunestown Series. When the field exited turn one in the first 125cc Intermediate moto, the YZ250F of Donnie Durrer was running out front, with Terry, Ty Morrow, Dan Roegner and the rest of the field giving chase. Durrer quickly put five seconds on the ensuing battle over second place between Terry and Morrow. Durrer put in a perfect moto to go wire to wire for the victory. Terry eventually broke free from Morrow but didn't have any luck in reeling in Durrer and finished in second place. Roegner held a steady fourth, with Adam Gragg overcoming a first-lap fall to go from last to finish fifth, ahead of Darin Chisholm and Vincent Rhoads. Terry won the drag race to the first turn in moto two, only to drop to second place, behind Durrer, by the end of lap one. Gragg got a better start to run in third, followed by Morrow and Roegner. Durrer built up a slight lead that lasted until around the midway point, when Terry started closing in. By the penultimate lap, Terry was around Durrer, where he would stay to earn the overall honors. Morrow worked his way around Gragg to go 3-3 for third. Rhoads returned to snag the holeshot in the opening 250cc Intermediate race, only to shoot off the track and drop to the back of the pack. Shane Smith inherited the lead, ahead of Terry, Morrow and Bobby Steffan. Terry closed to within a couple of seconds of Smith as the race progressed, but he would have to set- 66 JUNE 19, 2002' cue I Trent Pugmire was untouchable in both the 85cc (7-111 and Supenninl classes at Los Angeles County Raceway. e tie for second at the checkers. Morrow outran Steffan for third, with Rhoads rebounding for fifth, over Bryon Ward. Smith ran out front for the first half of moto two until developing rear-brake problems. Terry pounced on the ailing Smith and easily pulled away on his Chaparral/Hinson!Torco/ Troy Lee Designs-backed Yamaha for his second class win on the day. Morrow fought back from a last-place start to finish third, and third overall in the final standings, with Rhoads (5-4) and Ward (6-5) rounding out the top five. Team Green's Trent Pugmire had an impressive day that started with a double-moto sweep of the Supermini class aboard his Sinisalo/MX n _ vv s Ryder/Dirt Digits-sponsored KX85. Travis Bright finished second in both motos, ahead of Casey Logan. Pugmire was equally impressive in the first 85cc (7 - 11) moto, in which he saw the checkers first by a comfortable margin. Shawn Butler was second, a safe distance ahead of Kyle Smith, Chandler Quimette and Mason Sweeden. Pugmire went down early in moto two after tangling with another rider, only to get back up and motor away from his competition for his fourth straight moto win. Butler went from second place to fourth due to a bobble, but he still hung on to second overall, topping the 4-3 score of Quimette and the 5-2 tally of Sweeden. Ricky Hemme turned a couple of holeshots into runaway victories in the 250cc Novice class. Ryan Reina ran in second place up until the final lap of moto one, when a minor soil sample handed David Zahrt the position at the checkers. Zahrt, Bill Smith and Reina went at it over second place in moto two, with Reina prevailing in the end. Smith beat Zahrt in the moto, but Zahrt came out on top for third overall in the final results. Chadd Cole led the first couple of laps of 85cc Beginner action before Honda-mounted Blair Cisar got around him and checked out with the win. Cole had no trouble holding on to second place over Andrew Rosta. Tim Ritzier, with a cast on his broken wrist from a fall at the previous round of this series, claimed fourth, ahead of Randy Merrill. After getting around a fast-starting Ritzier, Cole was untouchable on his RM85. Cisar came from out of the top 10 off the start to run in third before going down, ensuring the overall honors for Cole. Rosta went 3-2 for third, followed by Merrill (5-4) and Ritzier (4-5). eN Las Angeil!S County IIlIcewsy Psimdsfe, Cslifamis Results: Msy 26, 2002 (Raund 41 P/W YAM BEG: 1. Vincent Armstrong (Vom): 2.
