Florida Motocross Series/Dealer Support Series Round 6/7: Pax Trax MX Park STORV AND PHOTOS BV CRAIG JOHNSON AND ANGELA HARDEN BONNElL, FL, MAY 19 he rain fell off and on all day long at Pax Trax Motocross Park. The rider count was up over the last two rounds, despite the bad weather. All the riders dealt with sloppy sections on the track. Derek Hall sailed through those sections. The 65cc (l 0-11), 85cc (7-11), and 65cc Open classes didn't have a chance when Hall was on the track. Hall led the first combined moto of the 65cc (7-9) and (l0-11) classes. Justin Starling followed closely in second. Jesse Freeman, Kevin Abood and Frank Charamut filed in behind. Hall pulled away, as Starling and Freeman did the same from the battle for fourth. Abood moved into fourth, ahead of Mikey Morello and Charamut. Abood made a last-lap mistake, and Charamut surprised both of them to move into fourth. Morello kept fifth; Abood dropped to sixth. The second moto was all Hall and Starling. Hall motored away for the 65cc (l 0-11) class win. Freeman and Charamut finished second and third, and Tanner Duncan and Chase Northrop rounded out the top five. Starling won the 65cc (7-9) class. Abood beat out Morello to take second. Hall led the first 85cc (7-11) moto and won. Michael Smith fought off Charamut for second, as Stephen Upper followed in fourth. Abood rounded out the top five. Hall made it a sweep the second time out. After a rough first moto, Freeman came back to finish second. Upper moved up one spot to get third, as Smith dropped to fourth. Charamut was fifth. Another Hall to brave the conditions was Riley Hall, who won the 250/500cc B class with a two-moto 64 JUNE 19, 2002' cue • _ sweep. Steve Dumond followed Hall both times out in second. James Cobb ran third in the first moto and dropped to fourth in the second moto. Jim Chludzinski finished fourth, ahead of Bradley Bernier, the first time out. Bernier slopped through the wet conditions a little better in the second moto, finishing third, as Chludzinski got fifth. Les Burnside got the holeshot in the first Over 35 moto, followed by Tony Gallardy, Steve Stojack, David Robertson and Craig Johnson. Stojack fell in the wet conditions through the double-double section. Robertson didn't have anywhere to go and plowed right into Stojack. Both riders were lucky to walk away from the incident. Johnson slowed to avoid the crash, while Mike Adams double by into third. Burnside and Gallardy pulled away to finish one-two. Johnson found a way around Adams for third, and Danny Glover finished fifth. Burnside absconded with the holeshot in the second moto. Gallardy was second, followed by Stojack, Johnson and John Cicero. Burnside and Gallardy battled the whole moto for the top spot. Burnside won the moto by a bike length to take the overall win. Stojack kept it on two wheels to get third, and Johnson played it safe for fourth. Cicero rounded out the top five. Burnside won the first combined moto of the Over 45 and Women's classes. Rick Thorpe finished second, and Kevin Wilson was third. Austin Gallardy held off Phil Clark for fourth. Winning the first moto in the Women's class was April Hodges, over Jacqueline Ross. Burnside put the Honda out front once again in the second moto. Burnside started pulling away but got carried away and fell in the bowl turn after the grandstands. Burnside struggled to keep the motor running but it n __ .. finally stalled. Wilson and Thorpe had been battling for second, and now it was for first as they went by Burnside. Hodges ra n fourth on the track, ahead of Gallardy. By halfway, Burnside moved back into second, trying to chase down Wilson. Burnside decided to go down again and dropped behind Hodges. Wilson motored away for the win, and Burnside made it back up to second. Clark passed Gallardy for fifth and the two moved into third and fourth in the Over 45 class when Thorpe fell. Hodges won the Women's class in the middle of all the men's mayhem. The largest class of the day was the 125cc C class, with almost a full gate. The rain, mud and slick track wreaked havoc on all the riders. Casey Gulick won the first moto, over Ryan Luke. Brandon Abell finished third. Fourth went to Matt Dale, and Camden Cruz was fifth. The second moto was a mix-up, as some riders did better than in the first and others did worse. Kyle Levalley won the moto after falling in the first moto and only getting back up to 22nd. Matthew Pedrero kept it on two wheels to finish runner-up for the moto and second overall. Gulick came away with third to take the overall. Cruz improved to fourth, as Dale dropped to fifth. Luke finished worse than Levalley did the first moto. I:N Po fro MX Parte Bua.n, florida Ilesalta: May za, zaaz (Reand & of 1m of 71 PfW SHAFT (4-6): 1. Nothon Wirth (Vom); 2.
