Craig Treble, who began the year with back-to-back wins on his Matco Tools Suzuki, turned in another strong outing with a 7.21 in qualifying, but he lost to Hines in round two, 7.21 to 7.25. "We really didn't have our act together this weekend," Treble said. "I made a couple of decent runs, but I didn't make one when it counted. It would have been nice to at least make it to the final. I'm trying to keep the points battle as close as I can." Brown, who struggled early in the season, has roared back to reach the final round of the last two events and has climbed to third in the points standings, behind Savoie and earlyseason leader Craig Treble. After stopping Chris Reuter and Tommy Miceli in the first two rounds, Brown got a big starting-line holeshot against Oakley-backed Shawn Gann and held on for the win with a 7.26 to Gann's quicker 7.2l. Brown was also sharp on the starting line in the final against Savoie with a 0.408 reaction time, but he left second to her 0.405. "The bike went pretty crooked in the final, otherwise I might have run a 7.16," Brown said. "Of course, that still wouldn't have been enough. We've found some power lately. In fact, we can run the second half of the track with Angelle, but off the starting line we can't come close to her. She covers the first sixty-feet in 1.04 seconds, and we're doing well to have a 1.08. That's a lot of ground to make up, and right now I don't know if anyone can do it." With her win in Joliet, Savoie has now won races at 12 of the 14 venues on the NHRA tour, in which Pro Stock Bikes compete. She has yet to win in six career starts at Brainerd Raceway in Minnesota, and she has never won at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma, California, because she has never raced there. She will have an opportunity to win both races this summer. "I knew this was one of a couple of tracks were we hadn't won, and I really wanted to win here," Savoie said. "It was also important because this is a home track for one of our sponsors, Snap-On Tools, and we wanted to win it for them. I just hope we can keep it up for the rest of the year. I'd really like to win in Sears Point and Brainerd. "As for the points, they don't matter until the end of the season. I learned that in 1999, when I lost the championship by eight points on the last day of the year. Sure, I want to be the points leader, but I know it's going to get a lot tougher before this thing is over."
