the gap that he usually had by there,
so I closed enough to where I could
stay right on him to the Carousel. Just
watching him, when he got on the
gas, I'd get on the gas. I knew if he
could do it, I could do it. And I stayed
close down the back straight and just
went for it through Canada Corner."
That was the race. Once DiSalvo
got by in Canada Corner, he was able

"I was just really hoping to put a
gap that he couldn't close up on the
back straight, and I just couldn't do
it: Moore said of the run to Canada
Corner.
Smith knew early on that his
machine didn't have the power of the
others. Nearly stock when he made
his class debut at Road Atlanta a
month ago, the machine had three or
four more horsepower, but wasn't in
the same league as the leaders.
"We could stand to have a couple
more: Smith said after finishing less
than half a second behind DiSalvo.
"It would have been tough to outrun
these guys with that anyway. They
were riding really well."
Watching close-up, Smith thought
he might be handed a gift.
"I thought Jason [DiSalvo] and
Jimmy [Moore] was going to give me
the win there," Smith said. "They was
bumping and grinding right there the
last few laps. I think they had some
bumping going on."
Acree finished just in front of
Moore's teammate Fergusson to take
fourth, the pair six seconds behind
the winner. Acree's teammate, Australian Craig Connell, came together
