Carolina Ultra Series Round 4: Devils Ridge MX The Devil Can't Keep a Good Person Down Bv MATTHEW MORETZ SANFORD, NC, MAY 5 n May 5,2002, the famous Devils Ridge MX Park in Sanford, North Carolina, played host to round four of the Carolina Ultra Series. More than 430 riders showed up to race on a perfect tack and in excellent weather. With Serious Race Wear and Triangle Cycle sponsoring the event, a big turnout of Pro riders added lots of excitement. In the 125cc A class, Chad Newton pulled the holeshot, followed by Isha Wood, Kevin Walker, Chad Lough and Troy Crisp. Walker and Wood pushed each other hard, trying to make the pass on Newton. Walker was finally able to pass on Wood and Newton, but when Walker went into a corner, his bike was in neutral and he went down, falling to sixth place and causing Newton to be blocked, and that allowed Wood to make the pass for the lead. Jim Neese charged hard after a bad start to get into the top five. Neese battled with Crisp until Crisp and Lough took a bad line and allowed Neese to pass for third. By that time, Walker had recovered from his mistake and was hot on Neese's back wheel. Newton, in second, showed some fatigue, which allowed Neese and Walker to pass with ease. Newton bobbled and fell to fifth, O and Walker ran out of time to make the pass on Neese. At the f},!1ish, it was Wood, Neese, Walker, Lough and Newton. Moto two was full of excitement also, as Walker pulled the holeshot, followed by Newton, Neese, Hans Nee! and Lough. Newton went down on the first lap, which allowed Neese to keep Walker in sight. Jason Bryant charged hard to close the gap on Lough in fourth place but ran out of time to make the pass. The overall order was Walker, Neese, Lough, Wood and Neel. In the 250cc A contest, Neel got the quick start, but he only led a short time before Walker made the pass. Lough ran fourth and Isha Wood ran fifth; they battled hard, but Wood ran out of time to make the pass. Moto two featured a Walker holeshot, followed by Neel, Lough, Neese and Mark Wagner.
