Podium One Motoplex: Clint Burkeen (Sn) nails the holeshot in the 2S0cclOpen B class, In front of Jason Mudd (642), Jared Karshner (756) and the rest of the pack, at the Loretta Lynn's qualifier in Charlestown, Indiana. Loretta Lynn's Area Qualifier Podium One Motoplex Baker, Horton Hammer Podium One Bv MARK BUCHANAN CHARLESTOWN, IN, MAY 4 eff Baker, on a Pro Circuit/Dreyer Cycle Yamaha, and Roy Horton, on a Pro Action/Neisen Enterprises Honda, hammered the competition at Podium One's Loretta Lynn's area qualifier at the Podium One Motoplex in Charlestown, Indiana. You couldn't have asked for better conditions, as the weather was perfect and the Podium One crew had the new track layout in excellent shape for the 300 riders on hand. Yamaha-mounted Devin Banks took the holeshot in the first 250cc/ Open A moto, in front of Scott Craven, on a Suspension Works/Finish Une Motorcycles Yamaha. Craven took the lead on the first lap and Baker moved into second place, in front of Banks, Horton, and Ryan Tracy, on an Olney Yamaha. Horton got by Banks on the next lap and Aaron Mcintyre moved into fifth place on an F&S Suzuki. Craven held the lead for three laps before slowing after takjng a handlebar in the ribs. Baker assumed the lead, with Horton putting the pressure on in second place. Banks held third, followed by Mcintyre and Tracy. The running order stayed the same from there on, but Horton pressured Baker to the end. Baker took the holeshot in the second mota and went wire to wire for the win. Banks trailed Baker off the first tum, but Craven moved into second place on the first lap. Horton held fourth place, with Mcintyre in J 72 JUNE 19, 2002' cue • • fifth. Horton passed Banks on the second lap and closed the gap on Craven, passing him for second on the last lap for the final running order. Baker took the overall with both moto wins, in front of Horton. Banks finished third, followed by Mcintyre and Tracey. Baker took the holeshot in the first 125cc A moto and held the lead for the first lap, in front of Craven and T.J. Blake, on a Thor/Paul's Cycle Yamaha. Horton held fourth, followed by Yamaha rider Travis Schaffer. The action was close at the front, and Craven took the lead from Baker on lap two. Baker, Blake and Horton were in a tight three-way battle for second place, and Blake moved into second on lap three, in front of Horton, with Baker slipping back to fourth. Horton and Baker both passed Blake and stayed close for the remainder of the moto. Blake finished fourth and Banks claimed fifth after Shaffer fell back two positions near the end. Duke Martin took the holeshot in the second moto on a Bridgestone/Midwest Motorsports Yamaha, in front of Banks and Craven. Banks took the lead on the first lap, followed closely by Craven and Horton, with Blake in fourth, ahead of Martin. Banks held the lead on the next lap, and Horton passed Craven for second in a close three-way battle. Blake held fourth place but was being pressured hard by Baker. Horton and Craven both passed Banks on lap three, and Baker passed Blake for fourth. Craven stalled on the follow- n _ vv .. ing lap, dropping back to fifth, and Baker started to pressure Banks for second. Horton took the win, and Baker got by Banks for second place, with Blake claiming fourth, in front of Craven. Horton got the overall with a 2-1 tally, in front of Baker's 3-2 score and Craven's 1-5 finishes. Banks (5-3) took fourth place, in front of Blake (4-4). Clint Burkeen nailed both holeshots in the 250cc B Stock class on a Fastline Racing!Town & Country Yamaha of Murray, Kentucky, but Wes Parr, on a Pro Cycle/D&J Motors of Paola, Kansas, Yamaha, took the win in the first moto. Parr made the pass for the lead on the third lap in a great race-long battle with Burkeen. Burkeen led the entire second moto for the overall win, followed by Parr and Honda rider Brandon Tacheny. Parr took the overall win in the 125cc B Stock class with a consistent 2-2 tally, in front of Adam Robinson's 1-3 score on a Carter Yamaha of Hanson, Kentucky. Robinson got the win in the first moto after "Flyin '" Ryan Sipes, on a Podium One/ Team Green Kawasaki, crashed hard coming out of the woods section. Sipes easily won the second moto, in front of Parr and Robinson, but Parr got the overall, in front of Robinson. Suzuki jockey Kyle Huening took third with a 4-4 score. Mike Mitchell took the overall win in the 125cc Stock (12-15) class, going 2-1 on a J&J Sports/Mokena Cycle Yamaha, in front of Justin "Pooh" Sipes, with a 1-3 tally on a Suspension Plus/Ryno Racing Kawasaki. Blair Miller claimed the third spot with a 4-2 score on a Sarge's Cycle Yamaha. Sipes took both moto wins in the 85cc Stock (12-13) class, in front of Corey Slavik, on a Lowes SuspensionjF&S Suzuki, and Cody Miller, on an MSRjWhite Brothers Suzuki. District 41 Loretta ""n's Qualifier Oak Hill Motocross Park Wharton Wears 'em Out Bv KAT SPANN AND THE BECKSTER DECAT(]R, IX, MAY 4-5 ycle Center of Denton/Thor/Renthai-backed Blake Wharton nailed six perfect moto finishes in the 65cc Stock (10-11), 65cc Modified (7 -11) and 85cc Stock (7-11) classes at District 41's AMA Loretta Lynn's area qualifier at Oak Hill Motocross Park. This was the district's final area qualifier, and 206 riders from Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Alabama, Indiana and Costa Rica were entered. Oklahoma's Trey Canard grabbed the holeshot in the first 85cc Stock (7 -11) moto, in front of Wharton, but Wharton took the lead on lap one. Oklahoma's Tyler Burns followed in third, with Texan Hunter Hewitt and C Indiana's Clayton Knox in pursuit. Hewitt passed Bums on lap two, while Blake's older brother Tyler got on the gas and passed Knox for fifth. The positions remained the same for the remainder, with Wharton taking the win. In mota two, Scott/Baker Boys/ Alpinestars/CTi's Trey Canard once again absconded with the holeshot. Canard's fellow Team Green rider Wharton got around him coming out of the first turn, but Canard took back the lead on the first lap and held it into lap three, when he fell and handed the front position to Wharton. Canard quickly remounted and maintained second spot, but Wharton stayed in front throughout the final two laps to take the win and the overall.
