Motowest Memorial Day Motocross Championships Hollister Hills OHV Park (Left! Jeff Alessi won three class championships - in the 85cc (12-131, 125cc Novice and 250cc Novice classes - at the 10th annual Motowest Memorial Day Motocross Championships in Hollister, California. Jeff's day started a little sideways. "Well, when practice started today, I didn't even make it to the first turn before some riders just stopped," liW it during practice." His lack of practice time didn't hamper Alessi any, as he went to the line for the first 125cc race of the day. "The track is pretty simple," Alessi said, "so I knew if I could get a good start, I could still win." And start he did! Alessi shot out front early in the race and kept his competition at bay to the end, scoring an impressive win in front of Anthony Houser, who matched Jeff's pace late in the race and posted a strong second, in front of Kale Deibler. The second moto was a mirror image of the first, with Alessi out front, chased by Houser and Tom Fountain. Jeff went on to the eventual win and celebrated by thrusting his fists in the air at the finish. "These number-one plates are really cool when you win this race," he grinned. Charlie Morrison won the 125cc Schoolboy contest at Hollister Hills OHV Park. Alessi stepped up to bigger machinery in the 250cc ranks, but the results were all too familiar: Alessi earned another solid pair of wins over hard-charging Korey Heess and Yamaha rider Justin Reese. The final conquest for Alessi came after he faced off against his older Nick Davis scored the 125cc Intermediate victory at the event, which doubled as a Ponca City qualifier. 68 JUNE 19. 2002' cue • e n e _ lIS sibling Mike in the 85cc (12-13) class, where Mike was handed his first defeat of the day.
