One of the few racers wishing for wetter conditions was this Northem Califomia KTM rider,

Kelly Yancey showed up at Washougal with a KTM 250 EXC thumper, and although she
opted to compete on her trusty 400 four-stroke, the smaller bike drew more attention in the pits.
KTM just started bringing the 250cc into the States less than two months ago. As usual, Yancey
contested not only Saturday's amateur competition, but also Sunday's Pro race.
Still suffenng from a sore shoulder incurred at the Ohio GNCC race last week, and from a sore
knee and thumb suffered earlier in the season, Yoshimura Suzuki's Steve Hatch raced anyway
at Washougal. "Dr. Jeff Spencer is a Jedi master," Hatch quipped. "I saw him Monday and
Wednesday, and he did electronic and laser stimulation. There's no way I'd have been ready

to KTM hero Shane Watts, with a smooth, stand-up riding style. Harden got hung up in a firsttum crash, but soldiered on to a 36th-place finish. Incidentally, Brock's brother Brent is now
working as a rider-support manager for Acerbis.
