Frozen Ocean Motocross Park Hunter Tracks Down the Win By LARRY WOOSTER AUBURN,NY,MAYI8 The six-race Frozen Oeean Stadium-X Series kicked off under the lights at "The Place To Race.". Kawasaki and Husqvarna contingency awards for all six stadiumcross races compelled riders to make the haul west from New Jersey or north from Pennsylvania, and our Canadian friends made the trip south to add an international flavor to the Auburn, New York, race. Despite about five inches of rain during the week, the experienced Frozen Ocean staff had the supercross-style track dialed in perfectly. This track will soon be featured on ESPN2. The giant Yamaha New York State "Weekend of Champions" event on June 29 and 30 will be taped to air at a later date. Ever wonder how a "local-level" motocross track gets ESPN2-type of coverage at an event? Just look at the professional-grade staff running Frozen Ocean Motocross Park and their 13 "Track of the Year" awards. In this series, moto one is eight laps and considered a heat race, only counting toward gate choice and another chance to learn some fast lines in the process. Moto two is for all the marbles - a 12-lap Saturday night shootoutstyle race. Chris Hunter from Stockton, New JUNE 27-30 Event Information Mail eany. Entries will sell out. Absolutely no refunds. Taking the holeshot were a Name: holeshot all night but was able to power his Yamaha through the track's new-andimproved rhythm section, flawlessly passing several competitors and moving into third. Leavitt also picked up the pace, passing Dickson for the lead, but an uncharacteristic mistake by Leavitt in one of the comers relegated him to a midpack finish. Hunter capitalized on Leavitt's mistake, moving past him and soon catching and passing Dickson, and pulling Honda riders Paul Kissig and Casey Higgins along with him to the finish line. Hunter added a third-overall finish in the 250cc Pro-Expert class to his 125cc first-overall finish on the night. A full gate of young 80cc riders provided some great stadiumcross-style racing action. Scott Sears, Frank Burns and Chad Dunning battled bar to bar all night long. Sears' Suzuki was extremely fast through the long rhythm section, while Dunning powered his Kawasaki through the familiar corners. Burns kept his Kawasaki up front as a constant challenger for the lead in both motos. Bums finished second to Dunning in the heat race and produced another second-place finish in moto two, behind Sears. June 15 is the date of the next stadiumcross event in Auburn, New York.
