Hollister Hills GP Track

HOWSTER, CA, MAY 5
The Hollister Hills GP track played host to
round five of the AMP/GFI Spring Series,
sponsored by Swift Auto World, and the Huffer
brothers were on the gas in the Over 40 classes. Taking the overall win in the Over 40
Novice class was Brad Huffer, while elder
brother Terry took second overall in the Over
40 Intermedillite class.
It was yet another beautiful weekend in
Northem Califomia as nearly 400 riders made
their way to the historic racetrack nestled high
in the scenic mountains above the town of
Hollister. And while the intimidating track configuration has changed since the days when
Ron Lechien and Jeff Ward contested the GPs
there, the AMP crew made sure the racers
were treated 10 a superbly prepped course that
still featured plenty of challenges.
Brad Huffer grabbed the holeshot in both
Over 40 Novice motos, while Carmen Ogino,
Kevin McMahan and Mike Martin battled over
second place. Huffer, aboard a Honda
CRF450R, checked out on the field in both
motos and went on to take a pair of convincing, mistake-free wins. Also on a Honda,
McMahan hung tough and battled with Ogino
the entire first moto, eventually taking third.
However, in mota two, McMahan found rumself behind Martin, and while he trailed the
Yamaha pilot closely in the third spot, he kept
the pressure on, and it paid off when he made
a last-lap pass to tllke the second spot and
second overall on the day. Ogino followed up
in fourth and, coupled with his second in moto
one, that secured third overall on the day.
Martin (4-3) and Kawasaki jockey Leroy Perry
rounded out the top five.
Terry Huffer set out early in an attempt to
duplicate his brother's feat in the Over 40
Intermediate class, abscondjng with a holeshot
in moto one, ahead of Mike Scott. The duo
battled the entire moto, and at the checkers
Huffer pulled off the win, just a mere bike

length ahead of Scott. Mike Kappelmann,
Mike Todd and Kurt Smith rounded out the
top five. Mota two was another Huffer-Scott
battle, and Huffer was once again in the driver's seat, but on lap three, Scott made his
move, edging out Huffer with an inside line to
take over the lead. Scott went on to take the
moto win and the overall on the day, while
Huffer followed up in second. Kappelmann
and Todd diced early on, but at the checkers,
it w~s Kappelmann taking a 3-3 score for third
on the day. Todd (4-4) and Pat Saugar (6-5)
rounded out the top five.
In Over 35 action, Steven Storie piloted his
Carmichael Honda-backed CR to a pair of
wins in the Intermediate class, over Gary Curtis, who followed up with a soUd 2-2 score. In
the Novice ranks, David Chick took care of
business via a 1-1 tally over Stacy Rowe, who
carded a 2-2 moto score on the day.
