California Racing Club Ounestown Series Round 3: Edwards Air Force Base Sand Track Brett Rothas dominated the 125cc and 250cc Novice cla_s at round th.... 01 the Califomla Racing Club Dunestown Series. STORV AND PHOTOS BV GREG ROBERTSON EDWARDS AFB, CA, MAY 19 Q i10ting his O'Neal/FMF/N-Style/ WJRace Tech-backed YZ250F over the skies of Edwards Air Force Base, Brett Rothas proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he was the fastest Novice on hand by easily sweeping both the 125cc and 250cc Novice classes during round three of the 25th running of California Racing Club's J.B. Memorial Dunestown Series. In 125cc Novice first-moto action, Rothas got things started off in the right direction by making his way to the front of the pack during the opening circuit of the Desert Wheels M.C.-prepped sand track. Ryan Reina settled into second place, over Ricky Hemme. Brett Klein held fourth for almost a lap before going down and turning the position over to Kasey Morris. Rothas pulled away from the field at the rate of a couple of seconds per lap for the win, with Hemme using a last-lap pass on Reina to claim second. Fourth belonged to Morris, while Klein fought his way back up into fifth after running 13th after his opening-lap incident. Nick Sweany and Reina ran onetwo off the start in round two, but by the end of lap one, Rothas was out front and already starting to pull away. Rothas was never challenged as he put a good 10 seconds on Reina for a sweep of the class. Morris worked his way around Sweany for a 4-3 score and third overall. Brandon Reina went 6-5 for fourth, over the 9-4 score of Sweany. Ryan Reina returned to snare the holes hot in the first 250cc Novice moto and lead it for a lap before Rothas dropped him a position, which is where they would end up finishing. Steven Hoover, Bill Smith and David Zahrt all took turns holding down third place, with Zahrt prevailing on the last lap by holding off Smith. The second moto was all Rothas', as he quickly established an early lead that would be uncontested. Zahrt held down the runner-up position for most of the moto until Reina outjumped him just before the white flag to steal it away. Zahrt would end up finishing third again, with Smith holding off Victor Chavez for fourth at the line. Josh Bagge and Shane Smith went at it over the 250cc Intermediate firstmoto lead right from the drop of the gate. Smith dogged Bagge for a couple of laps before getting a little better drive out of a comer in the sand on his CR450F to take the top spot. Smith put a couple of seconds on Mike Maute (3) won both the Junior Yet and Yet Novice classes at the Edwards Air Force Base sand track In Callfomla. Bagge, then who came under fire from both Vincent Rhoads and Chaz Smith. Shane Smith got to the checkers first, while Bagge was able to put a little gap between himself and Chaz Smith for second. Shane Smith absconded with the holeshot in round two, but Bagge kept his CR250's throttle pinned down the long back straight on lap one to move into the lead. Steve Colson held down third, just ahead of Rhoads and Chaz Smith. Shane Smith got back around Bagge to run out front, only to blow a turn and find himself back in fourth before getting back on the track. Bagge took advantage of the situation and smoked the field on his JMG Motorsports/White P/W ADV: 1. Shone Emerson (KTM): 2. Shone Jlliller (Cob). S/P/W (4-6): 1. Jomes Wilcox (pol): 2. Ryon Cochron (KTM). S/P/W (7-9): 1. Joson Bunch (KTM): 2. Shone Emerson (KtM); 3. Tylyn Soucer (HJII). PjW 70-90: 1. Stephen ROOson
