North Florida MX AMA USA MegaSeries Round &: Muddy Creek Raceway Heath, Bar None Walker Yamahauls at Muddy Creek Bv BARBARA WILLIAMS BLOUNTVILLE, TN, MAY 19 ark IV-backed Kevin Walker racked up three more class victories at round six of the AMA USA MegaSeries, collecting all the marbles in every 125cc A, 250cc A and Over 30 A moto. Though Walker's fluid riding style made him appear to be just out for a Sunday ride, not far behind him lurked Jon Boruff, Steve Andrich and Mike Katin Jr., each ready to pounce on any miscue. "I guess I could ride 25-Plus A, too,· said Walker with a grin, "but three classes in one day is enough right now. It wouldn't do to get hurt.· Walker has plans to open a riding school in the near future, and he's mindful of setting a good example for prospective pupils. Unseasonably chilly weather settled into the bones of riders and watchers alike, aggravated by a healthy breeze and teased by intermittent, weak sunshine. However, the 1.3-mile Muddy Creek circuit kept the riders - more than 600 of them warm for a time and made spectators forget for a race or two how numb their ears were. At least there was no rain. Walker absconded with the holeshot in every moto and romped to the checkered flag untouched and unreachable. This is not to say, however, that he was able to completely check out. Jim's Motorcycle Salessponsored Boruff did a masterful job all day of recovering from bad starts to hunt down Walker in the 125cc A and 250cc A races, finishing runnerup in three of four motos. Valley Yamaha's Andrich of Lancaster, Ohio, blocked Boruff's way in the second round of 125cc A action, claiming second overall via 3-2 finishes to Boruff's 2-3 tally. Andrich went on to win the Over 25 A class, over Katin, Tim Hodock, Mike Blair and Billy Ules. M Park Cobra Unlimited/HJC/Moose Racing/Progressive Safety's Tyler McSwain mirrored Walker's performance in miniature, waxing the competition in 51cc Shaft and 51cc (4-6) action. McSwain, the defending National Champion in 51cc Shaft, wants another number-one plate, and his 40-second leads on the rest of the field show he's willing to work for it. Yamaha Motor Corporation/Team BSY/Fox/Pro Circuit's Jacob Saylor, one of the very few who won a championship in Las Vegas this spring, was expected to sweep the B-c1ass competition at Muddy Creek, but Saylor fell victim to crashes in turn one. Each time, Saylor had to chase down the entire field. The Kentucky rider turned adversity into victory in the 125cc B class, over some of the fastest riders east of the Mississippi. Saylor also claimed the first-moto win in Unlimited Am racing, rising like a phoenix from the ashes of another first-tum crash. When the gate dropped for the second Unlimited Am moto, Saylor was nowhere to be found. Chris Leadbeater Jr. and J.T. Smith put on a great battle for the moto win, with the nod going to Leadbeater. Where was Saylor? In his pits, leisurely packing up to get back to Kentucky. "Johnny Gibson needed a pipe to run 45-Plus," explained Saylor's dad and pit crew, Scott. "So we unbolted Jacob's and let him borrow it, since Jacob was just riding to stay in shape anyhow. After his race, Mr. Gibson needed to get on back to Knoxville, so he just bought our pipe and left it on his bike." Gibson repaid Saylor's favor by notching fifth overall in the Over 45 class. Benny Stone leads the MegaSeries points chase in that class, followed by Gibson and Rick Oxley, who are tied for second. eN Bv CRAIG JOHNSON AND ANGEL>. HAROEN Muddy HILUARD, FL, MAY 4 Maybe it was a candy bar; perhaps it was something more nutritious· but Myles Heath must have eaten something for all that energy. Creek Raceway: Jacob Saylor (206) and Josh L1chtle (811) were pretty much this close all day in 125cc B action, once Saylor charged back to the front from his first-tum crashes to sew up the class al round six of the AMA USA All the other young riders could take lessons from this kid. Heath took four mota wins to earn victories in the 50cc (4-6) and Super Pee Wee classes at round five of the Florida/Georgia Spring Series. With one round left, Heath is looking to wrap up both class championships. Heath took the lead in the first combined Super Pee Wee and XR50 mota. FollOWing MegaSeries in Blountville, Tennessee.
