Marshall Hurd, son of promoters Tom and Peggy Hurd, and last year's honorary chajrman of the Relay For Life in the Scranton metropolitan area, has raised $13,000 since he started and has set a personal goal to raise $10,000 for 2002. This cause is very near and dear to the hearts of the Hurds, as they lost their beloved father and grandfather, Chuck Hurd, to cancer in 1997. The Relay For Life raises more than $85,000 for cancer research, education and patient services. Young Marshall and his grandmother Rose Hurd were on hand to sign up sponsors for the Relay For Life. Each class run that day was sponsored by local businesses, including some from the local motocross community, such as Boyesen and Twin Air, Conklin Cycle Center, Santich Cycles and Murray's Kawasaki. The Relay For Life consists of teams of eight to 15 members who take turns running, walking or strolling around a track for 24 hours.
