There were a lot of champions during the day; whether they placed first or last, these kids showed awesome spirit, and that's what motocross is all about. Dirt Kids will be sponsoring spot prizes, such as holeshot and fastest-lap-time awards. Reno, Nevada's Dakota Neuffer, who is a regular at Honey Lake, was all smiles after placing second in the 60cc (1 O-and-older) class. Beating him and taking home the first-place trophy was Johnny "Rocket" Vallerio. Jarred Spano of Truckee, California, put in a good effort and placed third in one of the most competitive classes of the day. The Over 30 and Over 40 classes brought out a lot of riders, and, as always, it was fun to watch the "big kids" battle it out. In the Over 30 Pro class, Sven Stillmock rode to a win on his Cannondale. "It's a beautiful place to ride," said Stillmock of the venue. "Larry has done a great job carving a top-notch track in the side of a beautiful piece of land. I am sure I speak for all of us when I say we can't wait to get back here and ride." Nobles and Donald Franklin of Atascadero, California, battled it out for second, with Nobles getting the nod and Franklin placing third. The combination of loamy soil and watering made for almost perfect riding conditions, and when the Over 40 riders took to the track, it was like watching a bull being let out of a pen. These guys rode hard and fast; taking on the daunting uphill with spunk. Franklin took first place in this class after a good ride in the Over 30 class, and Robbie Hadlock of Minden, Nevada, took second. Larry and Lise Wosick received nothing but positive comments about the track, from old-timers and newcomers alike. "Racing was fun for the kids, but f think a lot funner for us parents," said grandmother Barbara Edison. "You can go right close to them when they are racing and cheer them on, or be there to help them up after a spill." It seems Honey Lake Motocross Park is on its way to a successful season. eN Stoney Lonesome Hare Scrambles Series by Bridgestone Round 2: Stoney Lonesome Motorcycle Club Maschino Masters the Mud Bv MARK BUCHANAN COLUMBUS, IN, APR. 28 ain all day Saturday before round two of the Stoney Lonesome Hare Scrambles Series turned the course into a virtual mud bath for the nearly 150 riders who turned out for the event. There was hardly a dry section on the course anywhere and mudholes were common, some of them up to 40 feet in diameter, with ruts two feet deep. Heavy A rider John Maschino mastered the muddy conditions, taking the overall win on a Leader Goggles/Off Road Group TM, nearly four minutes in front of defending series champion Jeff Cregg, on a Bloomington Powersports/Team Green Kawasaki. Billy Cooper took the holeshot into the woods on a Suspension Works/S&S Powersports Kawasaki, in front of Maschino and Cregg. Cregg went down 200 yards into the woods and Maschino quickly took the lead from Cooper by the first check. Wes Etter held third place at the first check, followed closely by Bob Fiddler and Colby Davis_ Davis took fourth place by the next check, and Cregg was on the move in fifth place. Cregg continued to charge for the front, moving into third place by the end of the first lap, and he was only 43 seconds behind Maschino. Cregg continued to close on the leaders and took second place from Cooper at the end of lap two, now just 11 seconds behind Maschino. Cregg passed Maschino before the first check on lap three and held the top spot for 1 1/2 laps before Maschino retook the lead at the end of lap four.
