The three-day event features classes for ages 6-14 as well as a youth trials school by top U.S. riders. The California team members are Addison Giddings (10), Kyle Giddings (12). Chase Harker (7), Daniel Leavitt (8), Andrew Oldar (10), Ryan Sandoval (8), Eric Storz (9), and Neil Storz (11). ATA President Bill Markham is credited with the formation of the Youth Trials Program in Southern California as well as raising funds from local clubs to help defray travel costs for the team. Additional sponsorship has been provided by Ryan Young Products (Sherco Trials Motorcycles) and Gas Gas USA. Cross Roads Adventures, the promoter of the World Off-Road Championship Series, is high on encouraging the younger kids to get involved in the sport of off-road radng, and one of the ways they've come up with to get the kids excited about the sport is to have them join the Pro riders on the podium. Here, the little racers get the chance to hang out and get their picture taken with Pro winner Ty Davis, Mike Kiedrowski and Russell Pearson immediately following the Utah WORCS race. It's tumed out to be one of the more popular happenings at the WORCS races. Davis, Kiedrowski and Pearson also interviewed the top three minicycle racers from the podium. _,.IIJIIIIII·-..··llllffi • • • •II!I. .I1!!~~..."""~-----_... ~ ~ ~ ~ s: By ALAN CATHCART • • Moto Storiche Returns For many years throughout the 1980s and early '90s, the annual Moto Storiche meeting at Misano, on Italy'S Adriatic Coast. was Europe's best supported and most consistently memorable Historic racing event - an annual unmissable festival of nostalgia consisting of a series of not-quite-races run to the regularity principle, which attracted a glittering assembly of bikes from factory museums and private collections throughout Europe. Sadly, the steep Increase in circuit hire charges 8 decade ago speUed the end of what was essentially a fun, not-forprofit event, run by enthusiasts for enthusiasts. The party was over. UntIl now. The demise of Misano's Moto Storiche event left a big gap in the Italian Historic calendar, which fonner QP privateer GIanni Perrone, the doyen of the italian Historic racing movement, has now sought to redress by organising the 'Moto d'Epoca in Pista' meeting at Misano June 1-2 - the same days as the Italian GP taking place at MugelJo, less than 100 miles away, on the other side of the Appenine Mountains. But this hasn't impacted on the magniflcent entry of men and machines which Perrone has assembled for the meeting, headed by World Champions Giacomo Agostini (riding both three- and four-cylinder MV Agustas belonging to MV guru Ubaldo E1fi, who wiD be bringing one-, two-, three-. four- and six-cylinder MV Agusta factory racers to the meeting), John Surtees (older MV and prototype Manx Nortons). Walter Villa (250 & 350 Harley-Davidson twostroke twins), Kent Andersson (125 Yamaha OW 15). Tarquinio Provini (Benelli 250 four), Jan de Vries (5Occ VanVeen Kreidler), Umberto Masetti (500 Gllera four), and Eugenio lazzarini (125 MBA twin). Among the hundreds of other famous bikes and riders from the period up to 1980 covered by the meeting are the 500cc V8 Moto Guzzi. making Its first appearance in action for many years in the hands of factory tester Alfio Michele; Katayama's unique world title-winning three-cylinder Yamaha 350 ridden by the man who built It, former GP race mechanic and now Arai Europe boss Feny Brouwer; the four-Cylinder URS with which creator Helmut Fath won the World Sidecar title in 1968, also seen in solo form with the Metisse chassis, as raced by John Blanchard; the V6 Laverda endurance racer piloted by its former rider Augusto Brettoni; the 14-speed 50cc Bridgestone twin and monocoque-framed 80cc Suzuki single never before seen outside Japan but being brought to Italy by former GP racer Watanabe, Chris Wilson's ex-Pat Hennen RG650 Suzuki and Kork BaUington KR500 Kawasaki monocoque; Rod Coleman who's flying especially from New Zealand to take part in the meeting aboard the three-valve AJS 7R3A single on which he won the 1954 Junior IT; Roberto Gallina on the Paton twin he campaigned with honor in the 500cc GPs, before winning two 500cc world titles as a team owner, etc. The Misano meeting promises to be a unique opportunity for historic racing enthusiasts to see and hear many legendary bikes in action: entries are stiU available by e-mailing motorius@libero.it and further detaUs about the event, sponsored by the Museo Nazlonale del Motocicio at nearby Rlrnini, will be available on www.museo.molockJo.it.
