World Champion Albert Cabestany. As for Sunday's third-place finisher, it was none other than Colley - the originallsle of Man homeboy. I r cAV 1 On hard sections worsened by rain (the first loop required 80-percent of the day's allotted time to complete!), Lampkin rode a brilliant first loop, posting a score seven points lower than second-place Fujinami. Some foolish errors on the much faster second loop meant that Lampkin only beat Jarvis and Cabestany based on number of cleans. The champ's mistakes were a couple of fives for going backward in slippery sections, and another one for going outside the tape in the indoor-style section. Meanwhile, Jarvis had ridden quite well, though he did get a six-point penalty for going over the time limit. The unfortunate Cobos would have beat all three were it not for his minder picking up a yellow card. CAve There's nothing one can do against a strong champion who is onform, as Sunday proved. Lampkin's total score was nearly one-third that of the runner-up, Fujinami, while all the others were even further back. The organizers modified three sections, because on Saturday evening it stopped raining and a breeze dried things out. Unfortunately, the luck did not hold, and when the top riders reached section three, the rain was again coming down. Some sections weren't particularly affected, and some even improved by having the mud cleaned away, but many were daunting. Lampkin was extremely focused, and riding behind the other top riders, he could learn from their mistakes. He dabbed only four times in the first loop, and easily led the competition. Behind him, Fujinami scored 12 points, and then came Cabestany with 18 mistakes. This time the second loop was run without the usual problems of limited time, and some scores improved. Lampkin made seven points, and Fujinami stayed in second.
