The 3000-square-foot museum is a veritable shrine to the sport of dirt-track racing, housing a'n incredibly edectic collection of motorcycles and memorabilia from all eras of the sport's history. The museum is the brainchild of curator Rouit, 44, a former Pro Novice flat tracker who was paralyzed in a rock-climbing accident in 1978. The museum survives through the donations of dirt-track fans. The museum, which is the only one of its kind in the world. can be visited by making an appointment. For more information, contact Dan Rouit's Flat Track Museum, 559/291-2242, or email Dan Rouit at bunchesmukie@aol.com. An enthusiastic group of 750 motorcyclists raised $169,348 - a 22-percent increase over 2001 - at the Ride for Kids, Sunday, May 19, in Torrance, California. The chilly morning air did little to dampen the spirits of Southern California's hearty riders, whose record-breaking efforts will fund the research and family support programs of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation of the United States. Fourteen young brain-tumor survivors enchanted the riders with their poise and humor. Two PBTFUS scholarship recipients, Michelle Higa and Samantha Fender (pictured), spoke to the riders and thanked the Foundation for the opportunity to further their educations. Higa told the group that each day she lists five blessings and on this day she counted her long friendship with the motorcyclists as one of them. The next Ride for Kids event will be held on June 2 in Atlanta, Georgia. For more information about Ride for Kids and the PBTFUS, call 800/253-6530 or visit: www.ride4kids.org or www.pbtfus.org online. Aprilia factory MotoGP star Regis Laconi visited the Automobile Museum of Le Mans prior to French Grand Prix and had the opportunity to sit in a 1929 Bugatti Torpedo Type 40 race car. The Le Mans circuit is named after Ettore Bugatti. By AI..AN CATHCART • Voxan Torpedoed? To cilisl your vole, log on 10 _--_hllp:/ I yd ews.cWU'-'" III ne_s
