Glen Helen Raceway Park Partain Performs at SRA GP By DAVE DAIN SAN BERNARDINO, CA, APR. 21 Glen Helen Raceway Park was the meeting spot as the Southland Racing Association gathered for their fourth meeting of the season. The riders were treated to several new obstacles, as the Glen Helen track was being prepped for the upcoming National. The track changes proved to agree with Masor Partain, who captured the overall victory in the 125cc Beginner division. Jeremy Shafer got the jump on the 26rider field and captured the holeshot. Partain trailed in a close second, with Kris Nelson, Jared Meadows and Michael Gallinoto rounding out the top five. Partain quickly grabbed the lead coming down the back side of Shoei Mountain and led the field into the canyon. Partain continued to lead as the pack entered Bud's Creek. Nelson and Meadows moved up one position each into second and third, respectively. Colton Udall came from outside the top five to grab fourth. The top spots remained the same for several laps. Then, with Partain enjoying a comfortable lead, things started to change behind him. The second through fourth spots were up for grabs. Nelson, Meadows and Udall were locked in a battle that continued for the remainder of the race. Udall was the first to make a move, as passed around Meadows for third and headed after the second-placed rider, Nelson. Udall hounded Nelson for a while before making his move in the 180-degree left-hander before the tower. Udall and Nelson continued to battle for several laps before Nelson repassed Udall on the outside of the tower corner. Meadows remajned a close fourth. With the race past the midpoint, Partain continued to forge ahead. The battle continued for second through fourth. Nelson bobbled out of view, handing second to Udall. Meadows also benefited from Nelson's miscue and moved into third. Nelson came back into view a distant fourth. Udall and Meadows were now the hot battlers on the track. Meadows worked his way around Udall to secure second. Udall continued to pressure Meadows as the two went over the grandstand tabletops. Udall's pressure paid off, as Meadows fell as the riders took the white fiag, handing second back to Udall. At the end of the 45-minute race, Partain took the checkers with 45 seconds to spare. Udall brought his Yamaha home a welldeserved second. Meadows held on to claim the final spot on podium. Nelson came in a distant fourth, followed by Honda rider Matthew Stewart in fifth. In the first mota, Fricker was last at the start but charged up to second by lap two. Fricker ran out of time to challenge Demars. In the second moto, Fricker followed Demars around the first turn and showed him a wheel in many corners, but it wasn't enough and Demars pulled away for the moto win. The 125cc B class was loaded with talent. Joe Hart took the first-moto holeshot but went down. Jordan Kirsch also had the lead but ran into problems. At the checkers, it was Joe Rabiola taking the win. Demars snared the mota-two holeshot. Rabiola gave Demars a fight but couldn't make the pass. Demars took the mota win, with Rabiola finishing second. The overall went to Rabiola (1-2), followed by Demars (4-1) and Nick Gore (3-3). Joe Tarver aced both 65cc motos. Tarver got the first-moto holeshot, opened up a huge lead and took the moto win, followed by Zachary Martino and Ryan Howerton. The second mota started with Drew Yenerich getting the holeshot, but Tarver took over first in turn two. At the checkers, it was Tarver, Yenerich and Howerton. Tarver (1-1) picked up the overall, while Yenerich (4-2) and Howerton (3-3) finished second and third. In 250cc C action, Ryan George and Rusty Pattenaude had a good battle. George snatched the first-moto holeshot, but Pattenaude took over in the second corner. George answered and passed Pattenaude back. On the last lap, Pattenaude went for a block-pass in a corner but went down. George took the win, followed by Pattenaude and Greg Pollak. The two were close again in mota two, but George pulled a little room over Pattenaude to get the mota and overall win. Results SO JR: 1. DlIn Mllrino (Cob); 2. Collin Yenerich (KTM); 3. Ohio International Raceway Hunt Snares OIR Opener Wins By ROB PETRAS RAVENNA, OH, APR. 28 Northeastern Ohio Kawasaki rider Ronnie Hunt Jr. hasn't lost a step during the off season. In fact, he looks even fasterl Though it's early in the year and everyone's still feeling out track changes, new equipment and class competition, Hunt seems to have everything dialed in. Sponsored by Dave Richards Construction, The Kings, ProGraph-x, and PJl, Hunt was almost machinelike as he raced to victory in three classes, winning every moto he entered by large margins. He took the 65cc, Junior Mini and Supermini classes by storm. Finishing second in the 65cc class was Curt Gaski, with consistent 3-3 finishes. Third was the very fluid Dannie Pieronek, who took second in moto one but crashed twice in moto two. He still fought back to sixth despite riding with twisted bars and levers. Fourth overall went to the hard-charging Brock Nething (5-4). In Junior Mini action, with Hunt out front, local racer Clinton Zentner grabbed second. Third and fourth overall was a family affair, with Cory Nething finishing in front of his brother Brock. Fifth went to Clinton's brother Branden Zentner. This class and five others only ran one moto, due to lightning and an extremely heavy downpour late in the program. Finishing behind Hunt in the Supermini contest were Dave Perek (2-2) and Ryan Worth (5-3), both on Yamahas. In the 125cc Schoolboy division, Jason Ballachino, aboard a YZ250F, nailed the start, but by tum two he had lost it to All-Pro Motorsports Suzuki rider Sean Kennedy. A three· way battle for second developed between Ballachino, Cory Duma and Rick Eyles, ali on Yamahas_ Kennedy, from Imperial, Pennsylvania, seemed to have the race win in hand until he crashed after the uphill double on the last lap. Ballachino took the win, followed by Eyles, Duma and Suzuki-mounted Dave Dennis. The 125cc C division had qualifiers to whittle the class down to a 40-rider gate. Coming out on top was Yamaha·mounted Patrick Whiteman, who put a good gap between himseli and the rest of the pack. The battle for second through fifth was tight, with David Megunigal taking second, followed by Duma and Jacob Hagy. Dustin Sefton put in a fine ride for fifth after starting outside the top 10. Barry Kirtley handled the Senior II Kloptowsky, Demars Top Guns at Arsenal By NIKKI D(JRANCZYK JOUET, IL, APR. 26 Round one of Joliet's Friday Night Arsenal MX Series kicked off with a bang. The track had been redesigned to run in the opposite direction than in the past. Many loads of sand and sawdust have been added for the best track conditions. Jason Kloptowsky and Tom Demars were big winners on the night. Kloptowsky took the overalls in the 125cc A and 250cc A classes. in 125cc A action, Kloptowsky split moto wins with Eric Ratliff, who picked up the first-moto holeshot, followed by Kloptowsky - and that's how they finished. Kloptowsky grabbed the secondmoto holeshot and Ratliff went down in the tricky right-hand start. Kloptowsky checked out; Ratliff fought through the pack into second on the last lap. Robert Baker had the holeshot in the first 250cc A moto. Kloptowsky took over the front spot early on the first lap and pulled away. Grant Runkel finished second. Kloptowsky led moto two from start to finish. Kloptowsky put on a show for the crowd by doing a few heelclickers over the bigger jumps. Tom Demars had a good night under the lights, winning five of six motos in Schoolboy, 14-24, and 125cc B competition. The School- n • _ S Arsenal MX: Number 911, Tom Demars, made his opponents feel like dialing 9-1-1 when he won five motos at the first round of Joliet's Friday Night Arsenal MX series in Illinois.
