APR. 28 R ound three of the Western New York Motocross Association Inc.'s 2002 season was full of excitement on and off the track at Hunt Moto Park's 14th annual Dunlop Day. An early Livingston County fog greeted the riders who came despite a weather forecast filled with rain and temperatures in the mid-50s. When the fog finally burned off and practice began, the track and weather conditions were absolutely perfect - right up until the rains, wind and hail arrived, which made for a short day for several classes. After a 40-minute weather delay, track owner Mike Harasmisz informed the crowd of riders gathered under the large pavilion that they had done their best. and then asked, in the interest of time and safety. if would anyone mind if the rest of the day's motos were called off. No one objected. and 35 riders made the day payoff as a brand-new Dunlop tire was awarded to each of the first-place finishers for their efforts. Some of the excitement on the track was provided by returning WNYMA series Expert rider Aaron Dieter. The nationally ranked Yamaha rider showed all in attendance that his late-season injury last year had healed well and that he was more than ready to ride tall again. In the Open Expert class, Dieter served notice with a roost of dirt to round-one winner Brandon Kuhn and round-two winner Bill Silvarole. Dieter grabbed a superfast holeshot and powered his Yamaha out to the front immediately. Silvarole trailed Dieter, while Kuhn was right behind him in third place_ Dieter laid down some incredible lap times aboard his Yamaha, consistently in the 1:36 to 1:40 range. to gain a huge lead. Silvarole pushed his Kawasaki to the maximum and, as a result. slipped up in a lower track comer and fell. However. Yamaha riders Kuhn and John Steinbroner were trailing too far behind to capitalize on Silvarole's mistake. This helped Dieter to post his first victory in 2002. with a 15-second lead over second-place finisher Silvarole. Steinbroner managed to get by Kuhn for third place in the first Open Expert moto. Dieter's superior cornering abilities were sure to be challenged. as all the top riders were gunning for the second-moto holeshot. As the winds picked up. so did the competition in this moto. Dieter still got the early lead with a clean holeshot. but Silvarole was much closer in this moto and Dieter could not shake his shadow this time. Silvarole's lap times improved by more than five seconds from moto one. and he stayed with Dieter lap after lap_ As Dieter prepared to line up for his final jump and take the checkers once again, he slipped and was barely able to save it to take the win in moto two. SilvaroJe finished a very close second this time and Steinbroner was a distant third. Jason Chacho continues to lead the 50cc (4-6) class of young guns. Chacho has won an incredible six out of the six motos in this class this season on three different tracks and under very different conditions. Chacho also rides in the 50cc Pee Wee Hunt Moto Part<: Aaron Dieter at high speed en route to his first overall victory of the season, in the Open Expert class at the third round of Western New York Motocross Association Inc. racing action in Hunt, New York. (4-8) class and holds his own against the older and more experienced com· petition. As Jason Chacho continues to learn from these riders, he is also watching and learning from his older brother Andrew Chacho, and he will certainly be a force to be reckoned with in the future. Junior Mini and 60cc rider Kyle Lentini continues to show, week in and week out. that he is very fast aboard both his Kawasaki and KTM machines_ Lentini finished the 2001 series as the 60cc-to-65cc points champion and sixth in the Junior Mini class. Hunt Moto Park's track layout is dominated by the natural hilly terrain and really complements classes such as the 60cc and Junior Mini classes without taking anything away from the bigger bikes and older riders. Look for a strong challenge to come from Kawasaki riders Jake Eddy and Tyler Evinsky, as well as KTM orange-crunch riders Andrew Chacho and Myles Caradori.
