While no official statement has been released, sources inside of CCE's Motor Sports division have suggested that the termination was not due to a single incident, as many outside the series have speculated. There is no word yet as to who might replace Moran, but CCE officials stressed that the Formula USA National Dirt Track Series will continue as scheduled. ~ o o o o o c o o o The National Promoters Group has announced that race coverage of all 12 rounds of the AMAlChevy Trucks U.S. Motocross Championship will broadcast "live" streaming audio, via the Internet. on the official Web site of the Outdoor Nationals and the only motocross Web site to offer live trackside announcin9 of the races: mxnationals.com. o o o o o On the weekend of July 20-21, at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, Harley-Davidson Motor Company will officially kickstart its 1OOth Anniversary with the Open Road Tour: a series of gigantic weekend festivals roaring into 10 cities worldwide, celebrating motorcycles, music, history and more. Once the Open Road Tour rolls to a stop in the Summer of 2003, enthusiasts can join the Ride Home, organized rides throughout North America heading to Milwaukee, for three days of celebrations and special events. The official birthday party will take place in Milwaukee on August 31, 2003 and launch Harley-Davidson into the next 100 years, according to the Motor Company. As part of the agreement, Yahoo! will receive prominent trackside signage and world-class hospitality in exchange for various forms of advertising, marketing and on-line sweepstakes throughout their network. With this partnership, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will continue to hold a firm foothold in the ever-evolving world of ecommerce, according to a release issued by the Monterey, California, racing facility. "It is because of Yahoo!'s worldwide role as an internet leader that we feel confident in once again having them as our partner," says Gill Campbell, General Manager of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. "The agreement allows us to access their front-running position in e-commerce, while giving the company exposure to race fans and television viewers who attend and watch our world-class events." The partnership with Yahoo! was consummated by MGO Marketing Group of Lafayette, CA. MGO is Mazda Raceway's exclusive sponsorship marketing agency. The 15th annual Ride for Life, organized by the Eastern Harley-Davidson Dealers Association, raised $600,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, May 4-5. Once again, the annual event generated a record amount of contributions from loyal motorcycle enthusiasts, according to Harley-Davidson. ThiS year's Diablo Paintball Can· Am 125GP Challenge will get television coverage on The Sports Network (TSNl, according to event promoters. The fourth event in the five-round series for the 125s, which will be held at Atlantic Motorsport Park in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia, Canada, on August 11 will be shown on TSN in a half-hour program. The race will be part of the penultimate event of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship national road race series, also televised on TSN. The second annual Pittsburgh Ride for Kids event. which took place May 5, was a day of joy and tears, according to event promoters. Motorcyclists enthusiastically joined together to raise $76,125 to help the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation of the U.S. find the cause and cure for childhood brain tumors. This was a 50-percent increase from last year. The significance of their efforts was clear as l1-year-old braintumor survivor Alex Florkowski asked to speak at the Celebration of Life activities after the ride. "I have the best mom in the world. She didn't ask to have a child who had a brain tumor. She and all the other parents of the children with brain tumors are the real heroes, because it is harder on them than it is on us." Allan and Suzie Waer were the top n _ _ os individual fund raisers, raising $21,130 thanks to their $500-a-day plan. Allan said he left his home each morning with a goal of raising $500 in donations for PBTFUS, and did not return until he met it. His efforts were rewarded when one of the six child brain-tumor survivors in attendance reached into a bin and pulled his ticket as the winner of the Honda motorcycle. Road racer Dwight David Mitchell, of M&A Racing, will once again contest the Isle of Man n races in 2002 after last year's cancelation due to the foot and mouth epidemic in the United Kingdom. Practice for the 2002 event is scheduled to start on May 25 and will continue through the week, with the first of eight races taking place on June 1. Mitchell will race a new MV Agusta F4S. Race on Monday, sell on ... On Monday, May 27, GFI Racing will hold the FMF/909 Memorial Day Motocross for all classes at Perris Raceway in Perris, California. For more information, call 909/341-8002. AI Wilcox will serve as grand marshal for the 80th annual July 4th Barbara Fritchie Classic at the Frederick Fairgrounds in Frederick, Maryland. Wilcox has been a starter for the past 44 years, raced the Barbara Fritchie Classic 19 times and will be celebrating the 45th anniversary of his first win in the race in 1957. Price Racing, the Las Vegas-based off-road racing team, has switched to KTM motorcycles for the 2002 season. "Change is good, and we feel strongly that our move to KTM will help us get to the next level," said team owner Jeff Price. "KTM's commitment to racing is second to none and their line of fourstroke motorcycles is perfect for the type of off-road events we're competing in." Giacomo Agostini will ride a Team Obsolete MV Agusta 500cc three-cylinder on a parade lap at the Isle of Man TT on June 7. According to Obsolete, the MV is the same one that Ago raced against Mike Hailwood in the 1967 Senior n. Other lap of honorees will include Mick Grant, Dave Roper and Michelle Duff (nee Mike Duff). Those three Team Obsolete entries will do their rides on June 3. Kawasaki has launched the 2002 Cus· tom Cruiser Road Show, a rolling tour that will showcase and demonstrate Kawasaki's Vulcan cruiser motorcycles and Fire & Steel accessorized bikes. The next event will be at a dealer open house on May 18-19 at Hebeler Kawasaki in Pendleton, New York, followed by the Kansas City Demo Days at the Argosy Casino in Riverside, Missouri. The shows will conclude at the Biketoberfest event in Daytona Beach, October 17-20. Motocross riders in Orange County, California, are awaiting news on a board of supervisors meeting to decided whether the motocross courses at the Saddleback Motorsports Park will be allowed to stay open until Labor Day, at which point the Serrano Water District is slated to raise the level of Irvine Lake - which will flood the popular motocross park. The water district has already added 10,000 acre-feet of water and at least another 5000 acre-feet will be added gradually. The track is currently operating on a temporary permit. Often considered the granddaddy of overseas supercross, France's Bercy Sueprcross will see a number of major format changes for 2002. The event, scheduled for November 8-10, has been an off-season staple since 1984, when American pioneers Broc Glover, Rick Johnson, Johnny O'Mara, David Bailey and Danny LaPorte took a trip to Paris, and more than a 100 other yanks have taken part since then. For the 20th edition, promoters are utilizing a unique Supercross des Nations concept that will field three teams - America, France, and "the rest" - against one another for the (unofficialJ title of best nation in 125cc SX racing. Why 125cc? Because the event will now focus on the smallbore class that sometimes misses the limelight. and will offer the largest-ever purse for a 125cc race. The purse system has been entirely restructured so that the King of Bercy will receive a check of 100,000 euros (apprOXimately $90,000), with second place getting up to 55,000 euros, etc. The New Jersey Motorcycle Festi· val 2nd Annual Gala has been scheduled for July 6 with thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts expected to gather at the Birch Hill Entertainment complex in Old Bridge, New Jersey, for a day of fun, entertainment. and charity. Keith Singleton, president of the New Jersey Motorcycle Festival Inc. said that this year's festival is focused on three goals: to promote the AMA's "Motorcycle Matters' campaign; raise money and increase awareness of diabetes' prevalence in the Black and Hispanic community; and combat the epidemic growth of HIVIAIDS infections among African and Latino Americans. "We are as committed to our communities as we are to riding our motorcycle and ensuring that safety is available to our fellow riders,' Singleton said. "In New Jersey alone, the statistic rate of Diabetes is tremendous. What's even worse is that many are not aware that they have Diabetes, which can be fatal. On July 6, celebrities will be showing off their bikes, and recording artists from various top record labels are scheduled to perform. There is a $20 admission to the complex on the July 6.
