Vielle and Oregon's Keith Kadell KO'd the competition at Albany Motorsports Park, site of round two of the CMC Northwest Spring/Summer Series. Vielle took home the top money in the 125cc Pro class, while Kadell, riding a newly acquired Honda CRF450R, thumped to an overall win in the 250cc Pro class with a double- moto sweep. Of the 350 riders on hand, only Chris Alldredge, Mitchell Robbins, Jesse Wuori, Jared Wood, Ryan Thompson and Ed Smith achieved double-class wins on the day. Much mances netted the 17 -year-old from Yamhill, Oregon, fifth overall. Kadell, who just one day prior to the event had purchased the new Honda CRF450R, found the CR to his liking, and he launched the booming four-stroke to the front of the field at the start of the first 250cc Pro/Intermediate moto. Kadell was followed by Joey Mancuso, Washington's Ben Morgan, Vor-mounted Gary Beyer and former National number holder Tony Graves. Kadell would retain the point position to the finish, trailed by Mancuso, whose Pro-class debut resulted in a second-place finish. Mancuso held off challenges from veteran Pro Graves, while Jason Matthews and the top-placing Inter- Joey Mancuso (715) and Tyler Fick (277) battle for the lead during the first 125cc Pro moto at round two of the CMC Spring/Summer Motocross Series. Fic:k won the moto, bu1 J.R. Vielle won overall. Graves took advantage of a change in luck on Mancuso's part when the 17year-old fell while leading. This allowed Kadell, Graves and Matthews to slip past Mancuso, who would later finish fourth in the moto. Overall, Kadell's 1-1 tally earned the top money, followed by Graves (3-2), Mancuso (2-4), Matthews (4-3) and Morgan (5-8). In the adjoined Intermediate class, Thompson was again the recipient of a moto win to cap off his I-I sweep, followed by Brooks (2-3), Foister (4-2), Buyas (3-4) and Jensen (5-5). Mancuso and Tyler Fick had a great battle in the first 125cc Pro moto, although both had to first get around early race leader Kadell before engaging in one of the day's best battles. In an intense duel, Mancuso and Fick traded the lead several as he did several weeks earlier, Wuori hammered the competition in the Supermini and 80cc Age Group classes as the Suzuki-mounted rider from Albany posted a four-for-four tally on the day. Robbins was another of the dominant riders, nabbing wins in all four motos he entered. Robbins first roosted the competition in the 250cc Junior class, where he faced tough competition from Yamaha rider Ken Romero. In both motos, Romero was Robbins' closest foe, although in the later stages of both, the Hondamounted Robbins vanished from the rest of the field. Yamaha rider Trevor Brooks was not far off the pace, and he nabbed the secondplace Intermediate position, ahead of Nick Foister, Cody Buyas and Justin Jensen. Mancuso grabbed the lead at the drop of the gate in moto two, but right from the start the former minicycle star had Kadell to contend with. Things worsened for Mancuso when he suffered an apparently dislocated shoulder, and he coasted to the sidelines and collapsed from the pain. His misfortune allowed Kadell and Vielle to move up and finish one-two. Kadell held the point position for much of moto two, but after tangling with Mancuso, Kadell lost several positions and would eventually finish sixth, behind the rider who from that point on would take command: Thompson. Vielle then finished second, good for the Pro-class moto win, while Mancuso, Fick, Buyas, KadelJ and Intermediate Joe Loiselle trailed. Vielle (3-1) scored a career-first 125cc Pro-class win, followed by Fick (1-3) and Mancuso (4-2). Thompson's twoclass decimation came to pass after a Ryan Thompson was among the slim list of two-c:lass winners at Albany Motorsports Park, sc:oring the 125c:c and 250cc Intennediate-class wins. Thompson's best perfonnanc:e c:ame in the second 125cc: Pro/lntennediate moto, where he beat all riders, including overall Pro winner Vielle.
