Northwest Vintage Motocross Championship Series Final Round: Woodland Motocross Park Abbie Van Mater (6-6) filled out the top five overall. Former AMA National TT winner Randy Skiver won the Over 40 Intermediate and Over 50 Expert classes aboard a Can-Am. Skiver challenged Hart for many laps in the first combined Over 30/0ver 40 Expert/Intermediate moto but dropped to an eventual third-place finish to Hart and Casey, as he did in moto two, good for the Over 40 Intermediate win. Washington's Paul Thompson and Oregon's Grayson Hart were among the double-class winners at the series' finale, with the Hondamounted Thompson scoring wins in the Over 40 and 250cc Evolution Expert classes. Hart - who is undeniably the winningest Vintage motocrosser in the Northwest, dominating Washington and Oregon over the past decade contested three classes on the day. Hart posted wins in the 125cc and Over 30 Expert classes and also won the first 250cc Expert moto. Hart didn't contest the second moto, and his nemesis for the past 10 years, Oregon's Joe Casey, won overall. While Hart won on the day, Casey nabbed series titles in the 125cc and 250cc Expert classes. Another of the season's success stories was that of CZ rider Lorin Smith, who came into the final round with a single-point deficit to Dan Cunha in the competitive Over 40 Vintage Amateur class. Cunha was in the driver's seat after the first moto, as he overtook early race leaders Bill Grubin and Smith late in the moto to post a victory. Moto two, though, was a different story; Smith nabbed the lead and did just what he had to do to snare the title - win. Suzuki rider Christopher Del Air used Clark's misfortune to net second overall to Row on the day via 3-2 placings, although Clark still managed the runner-up position in the final points tabulations for the series. In the adjoined Intermediate class, CZ rider Kenny Brynn bested the class with a double-moto sweep, ahead of Yamaha rider Michael Cox and CZ pilot Dino Medina. Yamaha riders Kurt Stevens and Monty Price have spent all season in a slugfest for the Open Evolution Expert-class crown. Oregon's Stevens was the recipient of the title via 1 -2 placings. While Price won overall on the day, Stevens had to stay within one position overall of Price to net the series title, although that appeared to be in jeopardy when Stevens fell while running second to Price in moto two. Stevens quickly remounted to overtake Jay Lael, Ted Hulsey and Blake Landon to finish just where he had to • in second place - to clinch the title. Two of the day's largest classes were the 250cc and Over 40 Evolution Amateur classes. Husqvama-mounted Jeff Lancaster landed a win in the Over 40 class, using a 2-1 tally to top Grubin (1-3). Though Grubin got off the line best to win moto one, a thirdplace finish in moto two left him second overall, ahead of Coli Donaghue (5-2). Honda-mounted Dave Eppig has dominated the 250cc Evolution Amateur class for much of the series, and today was much the same. Eppig had brief challenges from Doug Eckelman in moto two but went on to score a I-I win, ahead of John Daniels (3-3) and Eckelrnan (6-2). Kawasaki-mounted Amy Light scored her third overall win in the Women's class this season, but after convincingly winning moto one (ahead of Alisa Wise and series overall winner Alix Saario), the 21-yearold from Salem, Oregon, had to get a bit of a break in moto two in order to cap off her I -I sweep.
