Langston will continue to campaign the 125cc class for the rest of the 2002 season but will graduate to the 250cc class for the 2003 and 2004 seasons. • Grant Langston is going to lead the Red Bull/KTM Racing Team into the premier 250cc class: team manager Ron Heben said. "We'll have two riders in the 250cc class starting in 2003. and we expect Grant to be very strong on a 250. The second rider on the 250cc squad is yet to be determined." Langston said. "I've had a great working relationship with KTM for four years now. KTM is a fiercely dedicated manufacturer. and where a rider used to only dream about riding for one of the 'Big Four.. they can now dream about a contract with the 'Big Five.' because KTM is serious about winning at supercross and motocross in the U.S. I had good offers from other manufacturers, but decided to stay and keep growing with KTM." After riding practice on Thursday, Mike LaRocco decided that his healing wrist just didn't have the strength to race on Sunday. laRocco showed up Thursday with a trick. camon-fiber brace on his right wrist and looked fast in practice. but he said that he couldn't last much longer than about 12 minutes at a time. SaBe SuzukI's Kevin Windham was a no-show at Glen Helen. According to team manager Roger DeCoster. Windham is still experiencing discomfort in the leg that he broke earlier in the year and did not get a release from his doctor. Windham will probably not return to action until the Southwick National on June 9. Chevy Trucks KawasakI's Stephane Roncada came into Glen Helen coughing and hacking. "I've got bronchitis; I've been getting it like every two or three weeks for the last two or three months." Roncada said. "' don't know why; I'm getting checked out right now to see if I've got a virus or mono or something like that. I keep getting sick all the time. and I can't do anything. I can't ride. , can't train - it sucks. I get to race day, and I'm not ready.· Moto XXX/DGY's Nick Wey. the top privateer in this year's supercross series. did not compete at Glen Helen. During Thursday's practice, Wey injured his knee. Wey will undergo surgery to repair the knee and is expected to be out of action for at least nine weeks. If the opening round of the outdoor series at Glen Helen is an indicator of whafs ahead. then things could come down to a heated battle involving two men working out of the same semi - Ricky Carmichael and Sebastien Tortelli - which could make things uncomfortable for the Honda teammates, especially in between motos. "We are on the same team. for sure. ,. Tortelli said. "We each have a job to do, we take care of ourselves between the motos - he has to do something, and I have to do another thing. and we just do our ow~ thing. We stay on our own side. get some rest and get ready for the second moto. " 14 MAV22,2002' cue ... Stew.rt (47/1 win); 2. Lengston (40); 3. Reed (37); 4. Brown (36); 5. Smith (32); 6. Welker (31); 7.
