Pacific Racing Organization's Northwest National Series Rounds 5-6: Spokane Airway Heights Motocross McAlister Hits the Heights Bv LEE LiVESEV RICHlAND, WA, APR. 20-21 haun McAlister showed he's been training by finishing first in both 250cc and 125cc Pro motos, amid a fast group of Pros including Dan Moore, Wesley Parker, Jerry Lymburner, Kiel Krogstadt and Cameron Weaver. The weather was great for rounds five and six of Pacific Racing Organization's Northwest National Series. Contingency money from Honda, Suzuki and Kawasaki attracted a big group of talented riders. Local racers were surprised to find the track completely revamped, and riders had to learn to turn right. The always-fun Extreme Motorsports crew, with help from DeVol Engineering, had turned the track backward .. This and the ever-present Pacific Racing Organization's Multi Line Design turned the track into a fun-monster. More than 400 riders hit the gates each day. Krogstadt jumped out front in the 250cc Pro motos and stayed ahead of the fast boys until a late fall let McAlister fly past for the win. Krogstadt had owned the track on his last outing, but on this weekend he seemed to be taking more soil samples than a HazMat technician. Dan Moore looked good coming off a serious shoulder injury. Not too many riders have gotten knocked off their bike from hitting the treetops. It sounded great to hear Moore's name from the tower again, and a 2-2 finish probably made his shoulder feel better. Washington Pro Wesley Parker still showed flashes of talent but looked a little rusty on the Huskies. The Spokane 125cc Junior class continues to impress with their speed and talent. Jason Laudermilk, Brock Morehead, Prentice Clark, Cody "Bluejean" Denham and Shawn Wilson all turned fast laps, but Deer Park's Jeremy Scully sneaked away with the win. The 125cc Pro class saw the return of Royce DeVol after a three-month illness. McAlister posted two wins, followed by Moore, Krogstadt, Lymburner and Weaver in the nine-bike class. The 125cc Intermediate class on Saturday had Jason Zuhlke, Kyle Versteeg and Josh Bailey battling for berm space in the corners. Versteeg still likes the new red bike (yup, it's still stock) and Zulke is getting really smooth on the four-stroke. Bailey is looking faster each time out. Zulke posted a 1-1 tally on Sunday. Versteeg was second overall. Calvin Reeves made the podium by going 4-3. Perennial favorite David Rose Jr. made a long-awaited return with a respectable fourth-place finish on Sunday; Rose will be getting faster once he gets the cobwebs out of the silencer. In her first outing since a collarbone break sidelined her late last winter, Geri Evanson placed first in every Women's Beginner moto on both days. She seemed to like riding her husband's YZ125. "I don't think I'm giving it back to him," she said. A split-gate start allowed Royce DeVol to toy with his old man. Look for Royce to lose his sponsor if he keeps that up. There was great racing both days in the 80cc Beginner class. Cory Ogan powere9- away from the field in the first moto on Saturday and placed second in moto two for the top spot. Tanner Oswald posted two first-place finishes on Sunday, with Ogan close, going 2-2. Tanner Mort was third, followed by Colton McQuade, Thomas Klippert and young Gregory Sullivan. Selah, Washington's Austin Rose owned the 60cc Junior class on Saturday with back-to-back victories. Ryan Durick held off Cody Bissel for second. Dylan Hulse and Colton Sdao were fourth and fifth. Alaska's Jerry Lymburner was fastest in the 125cc Pro class on Sunday. Lymburner, Weaver and Krogstadt traded leads throughout the race, but Lymburner outpaced the field for the wins. Lymburner didn't look quite as fast as in previous races. "I'm riding my practice bike: he said, "because my race bike is broken." Track support by Skagit Powersports was a welcome sight again. Andrew went through a huge stack of tires, with riders looking for the right shoes. Trick Race Fuels ponied up bucks for winning riders using their fuel.
