"Yamaha has redefined the naked sportbike with this machine." • Of course, we've been Si!Ying this all along, and, numerous Naked Bike Shootout victories and a pair of "2001 Top Ten Bikes" awards" later, we'll Si!Y it again: There's nothing standard about the FZ1. Except, perhaps, the new one it's set for the naked bike class. The secret, you ask? Well, take one R1derived engine-all liquid-cooled, 2O-valve, 99Bcc in-line four of it. TUrie in for a heavier mid-range hit and beef up the crankshaft ever 50 slightly for friendlier low-speed manners. Stir in 4-into-1 exhaust, complete with an R1-type torque-enhancing EXUP valve. Wrap it in a rigid perimeter-style, mild-steel tube frame with fully adjustable, supersport-spec suspension. Top it off with classic Superbike handlebars, a cushy saddle, plush, sport-touring-style ergonomics, and then sleek, half-cowled styling and dual cat-eye headlights that leave no question as to the FZ1 's lineage. "YAMAHA HAS DELIVERED MODERN REPLI-RACER PERFORMANCE: declared Cycle World, "in a package the common man can handle." ••• While, we might add, having some seriously stompin' fun in the process. n MAY 15. 2002' II: U II: • • Golden State Cyde 1220 North Main Street Bishop, CA 83514 (760) 872-1570 (888) 947-1570 Corona Yamaha 1245 Pomona Road Corona, CA 92882 (909) 738-8111 Champion Yamaha 1590 Newport Blvd. Costa Mesa, CA 92627 (949) 642-4343 Bert's Mega Mall 'Cycle World, 6/01 "Cycle World, "Best Open-Class Streetbike"(7/01 ); Rider, "Top Standard" (6/01) "'Cycle World, 5/01 60 10401 A10ndra Blvd. Bellflovver, CA 90706 (562) 925-5097 1151 N.AzusaAve. Covina, CA 91722 (626) 974-6600 443 Broadway Fresno, CA 93721 (559) 237-0215 Gilroy Motorcycle Center 7661 Monterey Street Gilroy, CA 95020 (408) 842-9955 Yamaha in Goleta 5718 Hollister Ave. Goleta, CA 93117 (805) 967-9898 Pacific Yamaha 1358 Pacific Coast Hwy.
