S
cott Craven, on a White Brothers/Suspension Works Yamaha,
and Scott Metz, on a MotoXtremes/
Honda of Troy mount, battled hard
for top honors at Podium One's season opener in Charlestown, Indiana.
Nearly 400 riders turned out for the
first day of Podium One's Easter
Weekend Extravaganza, and the racing action was excellent. The Podium
One crew made several changes to
the track in the off season, including
the addition of an over-and-under
tunnel in the Supercross section, and
they had the track in good shape
after rain earlier in the week.
Craven nailed the holeshot in both
250cc A motos. King Smith, on an
Answer Yamaha, and Metz trailed
Craven off the first turn, and Metz
moved around Smith to pressure
Craven for the lead. Craven led the
first lap, but Metz took over the lead
on lap two. Smith and Derrick Dewitt,
on a Turn One Motorsports Honda,
battled hard for third, with Smith
taking the position for good on the
third lap. Dewitt took fourth, followed
by Jason Schmidt, on an S&S Powersports KTM.
Dewitt and Honda rider Jeremy
Kershner followed Craven at the start
of the second moto. Metz moved into
second place on the first lap, in front
of Dewitt and Smith, but Craven held
him off for the second-moto win. Metz
finished a close second, followed by
Dewitt and Smith, with Schmidt
taking fifth again. Craven took the
overall with a 2-1 tally, in front of
Metz (1-2), and Dewitt (4-3) took

T.J. Blake took the holeshot in the
first 125cc A moto on a Paul's Cycle
Supply Yamaha, in front of Husqvarna-mounted John Kinnemeyer and
Suzuki jockey Rod Marshall. Blake
held the lead for two laps and Metz
moved into second place on the first
lap, in front of Marshall. Metz passed
Blake for the win on lap three, with
Blake finishing a close second, in
front of Marshall. Smith took fourth,
and Buddy Brookes finished fifth on a
Max Pitts Suzuki.
Yamaha of Troy's Mike Ivers got
the holeshot in the second moto, in
front of Brookes and Metz. Metz
quickly took the lead and pulled
away for the win. Blake moved into
second place, followed closely by
Smith, with Marshall finishing fourth,
in front of Brookes. Metz took the
overall in front of Blake, and Smith
(4-3) claimed third, in front of Marshall and Brookes.
"Flyin'" Ryan Sipes had a great
day on his Podium One;Team Green
Kawasakis, taking the wins in the
250cc B, 125cc Band 16-24 classes.
Sipes nailed the holeshot and went
wire to wire for the win in both 250cc
B motos. Husqvarna pilot Bryan
Wagner and F&S Suzuki's Brandon
Nichols followed Sipes off the line in
the first moto. Hardin County Motosports Yamaha's Nicholas Wolfe
moved into second place on the first
lap, in front of Wagner, Nichols, and
Jared Karshner, on a Ben's Performance Center Yamaha. Wolfe held on
to second for the rest of the moto,
and Nichols and Karshner got by
Wagner for the final running order.

Wagner and Wolfe followed Sipes
into the first turn in the second moto.
Wolfe and Nichols both passed Wagner on the first lap, with Karshner in
fifth place. The top four stayed the
same, and KTM rider Steve Banet
moved up to fifth place after Karshner
crashed hard on the step-up jump
returning from the woods section and
did not finish. Sipes took the overall,
in front of Wolfe, followed by Nichols,
Wagner and Banet.
Dreyer Suzuki's Jeff Jennings took
the holeshot in the first 125cc B
moto, in front of Will Busick, on an
Indy Cycle Yamaha, and Sipes. On
the first lap, Sipes moved into the
lead, followed closely by Jennings.
Busick held third place, in front of
Jon Wells, on a Cycle Specialties
Kawasaki, and Wolfe. Chris Couch
moved into fourth on the second lap,
in front of Wolfe, and took third on
the next lap. Wolfe moved up to
fourth, and Adam Smith finished fifth
on a Sloans Yamaha.
Jennings nailed the holeshot again
in the second moto, in front of Sipes.
Again Sipes took the lead on the first
lap, with Jennings a close second, in
front of Smith, Couch and Wolfe.
