AMA District 27 Motocross Series Round 2: Washougal Motocross Park STORY AND PHOTOS BY CLAY liGHT WASHOUGAL, WA, APR. 21 regonians Ryan Huffman and ( ) Shawn Haberlock hammered the competition at round two of the AMA District 27 Motocross Series at Washougal Motocross Park. Well over 400 riders were on hand, although few were as successful as Yamaha riders Huffman and Haberlock, both of whom posted double-class wins on the day. It appears that Huffman, the former full-time AMA National and Supercross rider, has returned to top form, as the rider from Roseburg won all four motos he contested to convincingly win the Over 25 and 250cc Pro classes and take home the lion's share of the professional purse. Haberlock was just as dominant: The 12-year-old from nearby Portland, Oregon, pelted the competition in the 80cc (12-13) and Supermini classes, replicating Huffman's four-for-four romp. Many classes were at overflow capacity, including the 41-rider 250cc D class, which Honda-mounted Lee Walch won. Walch trailed fellow YZ pilot Bill Barrier to the finish in moto one but was in the right place at the right time in moto two after early leader Chris Behrman dropped his YZ426F on lap two. While Walch had Barrier to contend with, Walch posted a moto win to garner the overall win, ahead of Barrier, Harvey Visser, Behrman and Rob Henderson. Honda rider Ryan Simms' consistent 2-2 performances netted him the top brass, followed by Yamahamounted Rollie Moore. Moto two was much the same, as Haberlock dashed to the front of the field and went unchallenged in his four-for-four sweep of the day. Bloom trailed Haberlock (2-2), followed by Oregon's Jesse Wuori (4-3) and the Golden State rider Fouts (3-4), who netted fourth overall, ahead of Gunnar Strum (6-5). Yamaha rider Travis Murphy was the top rider in the 125cc A/Pro class on the day. The rider from nearby Battleground, Washington, walloped the competition in the first moto, and then placed second in moto two to snare the overall win. However, Yamaha YZ250F rider Brett Boehm put quite a gap on the rest of the field in his moto-two win after getting around early race leader Todd Blanchard. Murphy, though, won overall via 1-2 placings, while Boehm (3-1), J.R. Vielle (2-3), Blanchard (4-4) and Richard Page (5-5) filled out the top five overall. In the adjoined B class, KX jockey Bryan Thibedeau won overall, followed by Trevor Brooks, Keith Ford, Raym Conkey and Lars Trulson Jr. Huffman was the cream of the crop in the 250cc A/Pro class. He went relatively unchallenged to a pair of moto wins. Only fellow AMA National regular Don Bisceglia gave the former Suzuki, Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha factory support rider a challenge on the day. Bisceglia took a momentary lead on lap two in moto one, but Huffman quickly rebounded and then easily won. Huffman also captured the moto- two win to garner the overall win, trailed by Bisceglia (2-2) and former National number holder Terry Lee Hamness (3-3), who netted third overall in the II-rider field. Bisceglia wasn't finished there, however, as the Oregonian devoured the competition in the Over 30 A class. Hamness was Bisceglia's closest competitor, finishing 2-2 on the day.
