course he was amazed when he didn't seen anyone in tow. Even after serving a penalty, Borowicz was able clinch the win in the Akrapovice Amateur GTU. Borowicz went on to win the Amateur Middleweight Grand Prix and the Amateur GTO. eN l1l8I:........ Fa""s Raceway South Beloit, Illinois Resahs: April 6-1,ZDDZ Blackhawk Farms Raceway; Meghan Stiles (746) leads Keith Wilson (54) Into a slick turn one en route to her first win in the Expert GP Singles class at the first event of the year In South Beloit, Illinois. at Road Atlanta, and with VISIons of Colin Edwards "draggin' knee" in the rain at Suzuka, Chachere motored through the rain and won the Amateur Middleweight Superbike, Heavyweight Superbike, Middleweight Supersport, and Heavyweight Supersport races. Chachere wasn't the only one to put it together in the rain on Sunday. Kevin Gordon rode his Schaumburg Honda Suzuki/Country Joe Homesponsored Yamaha R6 and Suzuki GSX-R750 to an impressive four wins on Sunday. Despite starting near the back, Gordon, in his second year of racing Expert, worked his way to the front of the pack. Gordon thought he felt more comfortable in the rain than most of the other guys. Gordon is always a threat and definitely one to watch. While winning in the rain seemed to come easy for some, Montez Stewart had a difficult time getting acclimated. With an impressive three lowsides, Stewart was either winning or throwing it away. He had difficulty with the transition through the bus stop and kept losing the front, but that didn't stop him from winning his second Expert race on the 600. Stewart got his first 600cc win Saturday on his Team Weeden/Champion Cycles/AGV /Blaze Crew-sponsored Suzuki GSX-R600. Stewart had a hard time getting by his teammate Chris Weeden, but once he did, it was smooth sailing. In the Amateur 600cc class on Saturday, Robert Borowicz had a perfect day, winning three for three on his Chicago Performance/Trackside Engineering-sponsored Yamaha R6. In his first race, he stuttered at the start and received the meatball flag. On the second lap, Borowicz flew down pit lane to serve his stop-andgo penalty, and on his way back on seven hot and Stiles broke too early, giving Wilson the advantage - but Wilson gassed it coming out of seven and his rear spun, allowing Stiles to capture her first win. In the rain, Matt Malterer had his best race weekend as an Expert. On his University Auto-sponsored Suzuki SV650, Malterer managed to edge out tough competitor Ed Key in both the Expert Lightweight Superbike and Expert Lightweight Supersport races. Early in both races, Malterer got a good drive out of five and managed to pass Key on the brakes coming into six. With the burden on Key to get back by for the win, Malterer held him off by braking hard into the corners despite the wet track. "I brake really hard in the rain," Malterer said, "probably harder than I should be, but I haven't crashed yet." Daniel Bilansky had the winning package for the Expert Lightweight Grand Prix. On his Hal's Harley Davidson and Buell Speed Shop/Badger Land Security/Hanna Trailerssponsored Buell, Bilansky pulled the lead through turn one and never looked back. He won the Expert Lightweight Grand Prix convincingly over Key and Mark Stiles. However, the celebration would be short-lived. As the three racers came into turn one after the finish, Stiles, with a fogged visor, lost his front under braking on the puddle-laden track and low-sided. Stiles' Yamaha 250, in bowling-ball fashion, struck Bilansky and sent him to the ground. Both riders slid into turn one while their bikes plowed through the dirt. Rain would be the great equalizer as Moon's Super Cycle/Authentic Auto/W3 Racing -sponsored racer Michael Chachere managed to secure an impressive four wins on Sunday. Missouri Hare SCrambles Championship Round Z: St Joe State Parte Rector Wrecked 'em Bv FRANK LEIVAN PARK HIllS, MO, MAR. 31 hen the riders lined up for the second round of the Missouri Hare Scrambles Championship, not many people noticed the number-12 Yamaha with yellow number-plate backgrounds on the far outside of the AA row. Some figured he was just someone who wanted to start on the front row and would get smoked by local boys, so they didn't consider him a threat. Well, they will now. When all was said and done, Dale Rector had established himself as a series contender by taking a convincing overall victory in a very tough two-hour contest. It wasn't a cakewalk by any means, but the 24-yearold rider held tough and led when it mattered the most. "My front-brake caliper broke off halfway through the race and was dangling," Rector recounted. "Finally the brake hose ripped in half and it fell off entirely, so I didn't have to worry about it getting hung in the wheel. I knew I was riding good, but I W didn't know that I had won until they told me at the finish." The reason Rector didn't know that he had claimed victory was that he didn't see race leader Chris Nesbitt on the side of the track, scrounging gas from a lapped rider just a mile and a half from the finish. Although he lost out on getting his first win of 2002, Nesbitt was able to get going in time to salvage third overall. Brandon Forrester fmished in between Rector' and Nesbitt for the runner-up honors. Some 460 riders showed up to participate on the 12.2-mile course laid out by the Missouri Mudders at St. Joe State Park. Rain on Friday night made for tough conditions and plenty of ruts and alternate lines. Lap times grew as the day went on, but the top dozen riders negotiated the trail four times. Jones Powersports-backed Doug Stone shot his Kawasaki into the lead at the outset, with Aaron Shaw, Chris Thiele and Rector getting off to good starts as well. Thiele suffered two quick spills and was running at the back of the pack, with a lot of time and positions to make up. With not
