"I came out of the gate pretty
decent, but when Jesse [Casillas] and
I came into the first corner, he moved
over on me, and I went off the track,"
Mills said. "I got up behind Marshall
and block-passed him in one corner,
and then he passed me back in the
next corner. Then he got out of shape
and went over the bars in the
whoops. James is a really good rider
and one of my teammates. I really
respect his riding."
Hansen forged his way into fourth
and then passed Blose in the last lap
over the Elevator Rockers for third
and went after Mills, but the photo
finish at the checkered flag saw Mills
take second behind Casillas, with
Hansen third.
The second moto started out as
another barn-burner, with Hansen
leading the charge for the first two
laps, hounded by Johnson.
"I got a great holeshot," said
Yamaha/Thousand Oaks/DHMA/Spybacked Hansen. "] thought after the
first lap it was Ryan Mills behind me,
but I looked back over a jump and
saw it was Bryan Johnson."
Johnson found a line around
Hansen and made the pass, but two
laps later he went down. "I was in
fourth off the start, but caught up to
second by the end of the first lap,"
Johnson said. "Hansen pulled a little
lead on me, but I caught up to him
and ran him down. I felt like I had a
good rhythm going and went into a
turn, but my back tire wasn't in the
rut yet, and 1 got on the gas too soon
and slid out."
Hansen retook the lead, followed by
Marshall, Neels and Mills. "We showed
Trent Pugmire was unbeatable In the Stock and
Modified 65cc (9-111 class. He won the Stock
85cc (11 and under) class as well, but a crash In
the Modified race prevented him from perhaps
claiming a fourth win.
