AMA EA Sports Supercross Series Round 1 S: Rice-Eccles Stadium (Above) James Stewart Jr. (right) and mechanic Jeremy Albrecht overcame the disappointment of the previous week to post ;0 convincing win. Stewart said he has matured over the season and that he's looking forward to the EastlWest Shootout and the outdoor Nationals. (Left) One week after failing to qualify, Danny Smith scored a strong podium finish, though it was unfortunately somewhat overshadowed by Preston's title. Stewart slowed on the final lap and waved to the crowd, then took a convincing win. Preston eventually came to the line in second, celebrating his championship with a very brief nohander over the final jump. Smith came across in third. "I would have never thought this would have happened [at the season's start]," Preston said. "J just go race by race. I don't know; it's kind of unbelievable. [The difference] is probably my bike. My bike's really fast. Like last year, when J came here, I didn't jump the triples; I doubled both triples last year, and I could barely jump the finish. This year 1was jumping everything really easy." "He rode a smart race," said Stewart, who made sure to congratulate Preston after the finish. "He got second. I'm sure he was nervous coming in here, and I guess the pressure was all off me and on him, but he rode good. When I saw him in second, I knew there was nothing I could do."
