Jeff Alessi Las Vegas Motor Speedway: Davi Millsaps scored the overall BScc Stock (14-16) crown at the Super Sunday Motocross event in Las Vegas. him but came up just inches short in a wild finish. Jeff Alessi and local ace Michael Parker were having their own titanic tussle over third; Jeff nipped Parker at home plate in the second photo-finish in a row. California's Jost flashed across in fifth in this talent-laden field. Another California flash, Shawn Hayes, blasted out in front of Millsaps to lead the pack out in the second half. This time, it was Mike Alessi's turn to come charging through the weeds. He did so in dramatic fashion, surging up to Millsaps rear fender just as Millsaps was taking over the lead. The two superstars blasted off into their own little world, waging war, while Jeff held third by himself this time. Hayes, Jost and Parker were going at it big-time in a major dogfight over fourth. Millsaps continued to hold the point, while Mike Alessi pushed to get close. In a spectacular last lap, Alessi moved right up alongside Millsaps at the very end, and the two flashed through the pipes in tandem. Millsaps prevailed once again, and two extremely close victories guaranteed him the overall 85cc Stock (14-16) title - and held the promise of some great racing to come in the World Mini. Jeff Alessi raced solidly for third, and Jost topped Parker and Hayes by inches for fourth. Mike Alessi's great efforts were rewarded with the overall 85cc Stock (12-13) crown. It seemed as if all the races were stocked with heavy hitters. The 125cc Intermediate contest had entries from New York, California, Arizona, Colorado, Georgia and, of course, Nevada. When the gate dropped, the only Pro in the race, Georgia's Bryan Johnson, showed why he is a Pro, absconding with the holeshot and the lead over Arizona's Paul Pearcy. New York State hotshoe Bob Kiniry quickly moved into sec- 80 MAY 1, 2002' co U co I e and at the canyon and took off after Johnson. California ace Cale Wallace was holding on to third, fending off the challenges from Californian Scott Simon arid Colorado's Lance Hiser. Johnson kept it pinned, but Kiniry closed up on the final lap, just missing the overall. Wallace nipped Simon for third. Johnson did the deed again to start the second half. Kiniry was right there this time and passed him. Johnson passed him back, and Kiniry returned the favor. Wallace watched this melee from third. Johnson sorted it out and took the point for good. Kiniry kept hammering at him, but the race had evolved into a p-a-r-a-d-e. Johnson went on to win number two, with Kiniry close behind, and first overall 125cc Intermediate, ahead of Wallace, Simon and Pearcy. CN (Hon); 3. Ike Jost (Kaw); 4. Derreck Murphy (Vam); 5. FMF Nortll Texas Night Series Round 1: Village Creek Motocross Palt! Record Numbers for Texas Night Series Bv KAT SPANN AND J.B. FORT WORTH, TX, MAR. 29 ow, this is the way night racing should be - full gates and awesome races! Several promoters have joined forces make this series one of the best. Terry Cordray of Village Creek Motocross Park, Lee Hawkins of Weatherford MX Park, and Russell and Danielle Carey of Badlands MX Park were all on hand to show support for one another at the opening round of the third annual FMF-sponsored North Texas Night Series. This was an excellent example of what can happen when promoters team up to N n • _ s make a series a big hit, especially with 460 entered riders present and accounted for. As Cordray said before the race, when asked what the weather would do: "The Race is ON!" And boy, was it ever. In the 65cc Open class, which had a 25-rider gate, it was "Miller Time." Burleson's Sean Miller used his Heartbeat Racing KTM as a lethal weapon, darting around the Village Creek night course. D&S Kawasaki's Zeb Smith battled hard to catch and pass Miller, but it didn't happen. Miller finished with a 1- 1 tally to win the overall first-place trophy. Smith stayed close behind Miller in the first mota, but in the second moto Miller was cut loose and he checked out. Smith finished 2-2 for second overall. Tye Jackson and Wil Stewart had their own battle going, with respectable finishes. Jackson finished 4-3 for third, while Stewart finished 3-4 for fourth. Smith and Miller battled again in the 65cc (9-11) class. Smith took the holeshot, with Miller going down in the first turn. Miller fought back after his soil sample to finish third. Smith stayed on the gas to beat Preston Primm, who placed second. Miller once again darted around the track in moto two to take the win, but his third in the first moto cost him the overall position. Smith finished second, which was good enough to give him the overall win. Jackson went 4-3 for third, while Tommy Miller ended the evening with a 5-4 score for fourth. The Over 30 class featured some great Vet action. Andy Reynolds was superfast and took commanding leads in both matos, going 1-1 to take the overall win out -Of 18 riders. Mike McWilliams stayed consistent with a 2-2 tally for second. Honda rider Bryan Jackson stayed close enough to go 5-3 for a third-place overall finish. After taking eighth in the first moto, David Holybee from Cleburne was able to come back and battle his way up to fourth in mota two, which was good enough to give him fourth overall. The 125cc Novice class had a 30-rider gate ready to rock and roll! Brad Wolfe from Venus finished the first moto with the top spot. Wolfe made mota two a carbon copy of the first to take the win and the overall. Honda-mounted Brandon Baccus repeated his efforts for second overall, finishing 2-2. Chris Mims looked strong in the first mota and finished third. The second moto was not good for Mims, and he had to settle for 15th overall. Patrick Enstrom had a fourth-place finish in the first moto and third in the second moto, which awarded him third overall, while Josh Edwards went 5-4, finishing fourth overall. eN VUllIga enek Mcrtocross Parll Fort Wortb, Teus Results: MlIrch Z9, ZOOZ [Round 11 50 SHAFT: 1.
