At issue was the line that Davis took after the pack passed the start banners. The Kawasaki riders claimed that Davis took a line that cut significant time off the marked course and put him well in front of the field when they hit the main trail. Davis responded that he took a line that was on firmer ground than the center of the dunes and that he was still within the course, adding that" they had 80 miles of course to catch me. - The club reviewed the protest, found insufficient evidence of a violation and allowed Davis' win to stand. Many past events have been blessed with relatively dust-free conditions. Not this year, though, but in spite of the dust, most had good things to say about the course and organization. -The Sageriders always do an awesome job...they had some virgin stuff where you had to follow the ribbon, - Russ Pearson said. "They always do a good job up here, - Ty Davis said. -It's about the best club that I've ever raced...a true National Hare & Hound. The Sageriders are known almost as much for their strict inforcement of a pit-area speedlimit (left) as they are for running well-organized events. The club's position is that these are family events, so safety on the course and in the pits is important. Last year, Destry Abbott was stopped and held for one minute after he sped in the 5 mph pits, allowing Ty Davis to get by him. Luckily for Destry, Davis broke down shortly afterward. and he regained the lead for the win. This year, a number of riders were -detainedfor speeding, Including Nick Pearson and Davis, the latter of which gave up two-thirds of his iead while serving his one-minute penalty. 250 AM: 1. ~vid Kamo (Kew); 2.
