CMC Northwest Winter Motocross Series Round 12: Albany Motorsports Park to maintain a large lead all the way to the finish, despite the sloppy conditions. Leach worked his way through the field of riders to trail Mancuso at moto's end, followed by Intermediate rider Ainslie and Pro riders Jason Matthews and Kadell. Moto two was much the same: Mancuso got off the line fastest and then put huge ground on the rest of the pack for his second moto win of the day. A huge six-way battle waged behind him, headed by Pros Gary Beyer, Matthews and Intermediate rider Didier, but Leach again came from well back to take the numbertwo position - which was again good for the Pro-class win. Matthews, who spent several laps fending off Leach for what could have been an overall win, finished third, followed by Didier (the second-placed Intermediate), Pros Kadell and Beyer, and Intermediate Cody Buyas. Yamaha rider Shawn Haberlock was the dominant rider in the 80cc ranks, carting off a pair of overall wins on the day. Haberlock's first of two wins came in the 80cc age-group class. The rider from Portland, Oregon, pounded the competition for STORV AND PHOTOS BV CLAV LIGHT ALBANY,OR, MAR. 24 onda-mounted Joey Mancuso trounced the competition in the 250cc Pro/Intermediate class during supercross action at the Albany Motorsports Park, posting two dominating performances at the final round of the 12-round CMC Northwest Winter Series. Mancuso not only beat all of his fellow Intermediateclass riders, he also beat all of the Professional riders - badly! Kawasaki rider Mike Corder was the day's top Professional performer, acing both 125cc Pro motos on the day. The Team Green rider from Rainier, Oregon, had tough competition from Honda-mounted Keith Kadel! and Yamaha pilot Kelvin Schoen in the early stages of both motos, but in the later stages of each, Corder put as much as six seconds on the competition and, at the completion, took home the top money at the series' finale. Overall, Kadell finished second, followed by Schoen. Honda-mounted Ryan Thompson was the top rider in the adjoined Intermediate class, going 2-1 on the day. Washington's Dale Ainslie has been on a roll lately, but he couldn't put two consistent motos together on this day. After convincingly topping moto one, Ainslie encountered mechanical problems the second time out. Thompson stayed within the lead pack of riders (which included the lead trio of Pros) and he finished ahead of Mark Miller-Jones and Davis Didier. Miller-Jones (6-2) placed second overall, followed by Trevor Brooks (3-5), Pete Sannan (5-4) and Didier (7-3). Mancuso was the cream of the crop in the 250cc class, as the former minicycle champion darted ahead of the combined field of Pro and Intermediate riders and remained there to the finish. Mancuso took advantage of a poor start on Ryan Leach's part 52 APRIL 24, 2002' cue I • both moto wins, ahead of Suzukimounted Jesse Wuori, who was the second-place finisher to Haberlock in the competitive 80cc (12-13) class. Matt Wilson trailed the duo in moto two, and thus earned the overall win in the 80cc (14-16) class, ahead of 80cc (7 -11) class winner Taylor McKee and Aaron McClinton, who was third in the 80cc (12-13) class. Haberlock's final demolition came in the Supermini class, where he again won both motos. Yamahamounted Nathan Whitlow finished second to Haberlock in moto one and was in good position to land second overall until a crash in moto two dropped him to sixth. This allowed both Wuori and McClinton to move up. Suzuki rider Wuori (4-2) nabbed second overall. Wilson (3-4), Whitlow (2-6) and McClinton (6-3) filled the top five overall. A large field of riders battled for wins in two separate classes in the day's final moto, the combined 250cc Junior/Beginner contest. Jeremy Hylton and Jake Sannan split moto victories while leading the pack, but it was the Suzuki-mounted Sannan who scored the overall 250cc Junior-class win via 3-1 placings. Hylton (3-1) and the series class champion, Jere- my Mickelson (2-4), rounded out the rostrum positions. Yamaha rider Brad Batchelor won the Beginner class overall, trailed by Tylor Gorst and Jeremy Brubeck. Pete Sannan notched a win in the Before The Hill Intermediate class, where he bested the field of combined Junior-class riders to end his season on a high note. The 15-year-old from Albany, Oregon, won two series titles, the Before The Hill and 125cc Intermediate classes, aboard his KTM. Yamaha rider Heath Voegele topped the Junior class overall, followed by Guy Tow and Jimi Blackwell, who won the second moto but went 5-1 for third overall. eN n • _ • llbany MDtDrsparts Pari< llbaay, Oregon Results: Marcb Z4, ZDD2 [Round 1Z of 1ZI P/W (4-6): 1.
