"This is actually one of my bad periods. The machine was running very well. At the second lap, I did a lap time which is the eighth overall at the end of the session, and only the factory twins were at that time in front of me. Unfortunately, I'll be unfit to race at Sugo, it would be a nonsense to do like I've done in Spain two years ago [and ride injured]. Sugo is very difficult track, also physical for a rider. It is better stay at home and recover perfectly for Monza." In the World Championship, Bayliss leads Edwards thanks to his perfect points score of 150, with Edwards on 105 points, Xaus on 79, Bostrom on 77 and Hodgson on 69. For the neutrals, Bayliss was a popular winner, but also an unpopular one, with many of the onlookers disappointed that the homogeny on the top step of the podium has yet to be broken. Maybe at Sugo, in two weeks, Bayliss' spell over the championship this year will be broken, but no one in their right mind would have bet everything they owned on Bayliss winning both races at Kyalami - a track that Edwards and Bostrom are usually dominant on. The only hope for the others is that Bayliss' 2001 Sugo nightmare returns to haunt him. Forty-five points clear after six races. It beggars belief. CN Ky.18mi Circuit Johannesbul'll.
