,..----------------------, '" ~ w o ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ .~ Mesquite Raceway: Shaun Harrison was the winner of the 65cc Stock class as the Casino Towns Motocross Series visited Mesquite, Nevada, for the final round. Nevada, on March 3, Rudi Williams opened up a can of "Speed To Burn" and took home the overall trophy in the 85cc Stock (7-11) class. In the Minicycle ranks, the "age group" classes are where most of the talented racers drop anchor. One of the better hotshots, Brodie Humphries, blasted off the gate to lead Williams and little Levii Hall into battle. Rudi fought past for the lead in the first few turns, while Hall was holding off Josh Jerkins and Michael Vasquez. Williams held it on, but he couldn't shake the persistent Humphries. Meanwhile, Hall held tight to complete the all-Suzuki trio out in front. The duel between Williams and Humphries pulled them far out in front of the rest of the pack, but Hall ran into double trouble and dropped from contention. Rudi Williams nipped Humphries for the 85cc Stock (7 -11) class victory. Jerkins flashed across in third, leading the 85cc Beginners, as Hayden Roberts led Keaton Olund and Vasquez through the pipes. Hall smoked off the gate to lead Humphries and Williams in moto two, as the Answer/Alpinesta,s-sponsored charger was showing. his sponsors just how smart they were. Williams made a smart move to snap into second, as Humphries continued to stay right on him. Further back, Devin Hunt was leading Roberts and Derek Rogers in a battle for the scraps. Williams was pushing - and pushing hard - but Hall had it in maximum overdrive and wouldn't give up the number-one position. Humphries was also hanging tough, and-the race was between these three. Lap after 74 APRIL 3, 2002' cue • • lap, Hall and Williams tore it up, and finally Hall just nipped Williams for an eyeopening second-moto win. Williams won the 85cc Stock (7-11) overall easily, due to the first-moto misfortunes of Hall, while the strong-running Humphries claimed second overall, ahead of Roberts and Olund. Jerkins was the runaway winner in the 85cc Beginner class, besting Vasquez and Dee Larson. The older Williams, as in Bern, didn't exactly have a bad day, either, as he dominated the action in the 85cc Stock (14-16) contest and easily won the 85cc Open contest. He even won a moto in the hotly contested 125cc Novice class. eN Mesq ita llIceway Mesquita, Nevada Results: March 3, ZDDZ [Round 6 ef 6J 50 BEG: 1. Kenze Johnson (KTM); 2. Brody McBride (Han): 3.
