Yamaha of Cucamonga provided the fix for the rear shock, as it was sometimes too soft for riding two·up. But Dennis didn't want to make it perfect for rid· ing two·up, because he'd run the risk of making it too stiff for one· up rid· ing. YOC added a groove to the rear shock and installed a gSO-pound Eibach spring, and now the machine has the potential to handle heavier loads than stock, and it even sits a touch lower. 52 APRIL 3, 2002' a U a I _ $7649.85 Not too long ago, Dennis added a cast racing intake manifold, and he began looking for a replacement for the slip·ons that he had had on the exhaust almost from day one. "I started with the stock pipes, then went to Chrome Works slip·ons, then went to the DG Hard Krome full pipes, then went to the DG two·into· one Xccelerator," he said. "( finally found a pipe that really pushes out the power and that I really enjoy." The two·into·ones were installed in an effort to not only increase horse· n __ s Does It look like It has 16,000 miles on It? No, but It does, and the performance mods that have been made since It was purchased have helped keep the bike feeling fresh as well. power but to increase ground clear· ance on the right side as well. While riding two·up, he had experiences where he'd scrape the lower pipe on the right while turning, so when he looked to DG Hard Krome for a fix, they showed him the new Xccelera· tor. Its two·into-one design adds a bit of needed ground clearance, while also increasing the power output rather significantly. When he started working on this machine, he says he wanted something that looks good, is comfortable and has the power that he was looking for. "I don't think anyone who does this expects to spend what they do," he says, "but with the amount of money I spent, the bike's almost the way I want it and it still costs less than some of the other bikes on the market [that are] stock." As true as that is, he still has plen· ty in store for his bike. After all, he did say" almost. " "I've got a couple more chrome items I want to put on the bike, and then I'll probably settle for some more performance mods later on," he says. "Then, if the paint gets dingy, I'll get it painted."
