Sealsco plans to produce 13 one-hour programs covering both motorcycle and ATV racing from every round of the 2002 GNCC series. The motorcycles will have their own show, as well as the ATVs. so there will actually be 26 programs in all. The shows will air on the Outdoor Life Network. Diverse recreation and access groups filed motions to join a federal district court action involving Forest Service management of the EI Dorado National Forest. The original suit was filed by Wilderness advocates who are asking for closure of trails in the Forest. pending completion of more studies. In addition to moving to intervene on the side of the Forest Service. the access groups have sought leave to file crossclaims against the agency. According to Rick Guidice, spokesman for the California Enduro Riders Association, "I think the recent suit filed by green groups to force a closure of many off-road vehicle and equestrian trails in the EI Dorado National Forest goes too far. While I agree the agency may have mismanaged its trail program, we are challenging unnecessary closures and restrictions that ignore sound science. the needs of the resource and reasonable recreational access." Guidice also stated that he thought the final outcome of CERA's involvement in the lawsuit would be better management of the resource while at the same time providing a quality trail experience for off-roaders and equestrians. The local, state and national interest groups filing the motion include Friends of the Rubicon. CERA, District 36 of the AMA, EI Dorado Equestrian Trails Foundation. We the People, California Off Road Vehicle Association. California Association of Four-Wheel Drive Clubs, and the BlueRibbon Coalition. The recreational groups are represented by Paul Turcke of Boise. Idaho, and Dennis Porter of Redding, Califomia. n • _ 50 •• KTM Sportmotorcycle USA opened a new 25,500-square foot parts distribution center at their corporate headquarters in Amherst. Ohio. "A significant portion of this company's resources are to be focused on reducing backorders, establishing ultra-quick order tumaround times, and introducing more marketcompetitive pricings," said KTM Sportmotorcycle USA president Rod Bush. "After six months of hard work and dedication, the opening of [this] new parts distribution center will represent the culmination of those activities. And just as we have positioned ourselves as the leader in performance motorcycle technology, KTM will also set the quality parts and service delivery standard for the entire industry. " The American Motorcycle Heritage Foundation, which administers the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum, has announced four new members of its Board of Directors. The new members were officially seated at the Board's meeting in Daytona Beach, Florida. Joining the AMHF Board are Dave Mungenast. Sr. of Sunset Hills, Missouri, Bob Sinclair of Santa Barbara, California, Jeff Smith of Wausau, Wisconsin, a~d John Ulrich of Lake Elsinore, California. "We're pleased to welcome these four new members to the Foundation Board," said Don Emde, Chairman of the AMHF Board of Directors. "Their background. expertise, and enthusiasm, combined with that of the other nine board members. will ensure that the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum continues to fulfill its mission." Each member of the AMHF Board of Directors serves a two-year term. Smith, Ulrich, and AMHF Board member Dal Smilie of Helena, Montana, also serve on the Board of Directors of the American Motorcyclist Association. The other members of the AMHF Board of Directors are Emde, of laguna Niguel, California; Mark Mendell (Vice Chairman), of Buffalo, New York; Dr. Charles Falco (Secretary). of Tucson, Arizona; Bill Baird of Sterling, Illinois; Bob McLean, of Bettendorf, Iowa; Tim Parker, of Stillwater. Minnesota; and Margaret and Mike Wilson. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. las Vegas-based Dynojet Research Inc. has announced the opening of their new British operation, Dynojet UK, which will be based near Preston in lancashire. The subsidiary will be responsible for the exclusive distribution of motorcycle performance products including their range of Power Commanders. Dynamometers and various accessories throughout the U.K. Heading the new team in the role of Commercial Manager will be Stuart Bland. who has vast experience in the motorcycle performance industry, and former road racer Kevin Mawdsley, who will act as the operation's Technical Specialist. will join him. In addition. Dynojet UK will be providing competitors with a paddock service at all British Superbike Championship rounds in 2002, as well as attending the pure road races including the North West 200 and the Isle of Man TT Races, with their fully equipped mobile performance center capable of providing race setups and a remapping service. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, The Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) has contracted with the Convention & Visitor's Bureau of Fort Wayne, Indiana, to hold its annual international convention. Wing Ding XXIV, in that city July 2-5, 2002. The theme for this year's extravaganza is "Celebrating Freedom." The site of the event will be the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum, on the banks of the St. Joseph River. Fort Wayne's convention center complex has 148.000 square feet of exhibitor space and 10,000 seats in its arena. Wing Ding is the largest singlemarque motorcycle convention of its kind, according to GWRRA. According to a report in the Watersports Retailer, Jeremy McGrath has signed a deal with Tige to endorse their wakeboard boats. The AMA has announced that Lt. Col. Duane G. Carey. pilot of Space Shuttle Mission STS-l09, is carrying into space a unique flag bearing the emblem of the AMA. Space Shuttle Columbia lifted off from Kennedy Space Center Launch Pad 39A at 6;22 a.m. EST on March 1, bound for the Hubble Space Telescope. where the crew will conduct a servicing mission. Carey, a 24-year AMA member and an avid motorcyclist. asked the AMA last year for an item to take with him into space. He plans to donate the one-of-a-kind flag to the AMA when he returns, for display at the AMA's headquarters in Pickerington, Ohio. NASA regulations allow each member of a Space Shuttle's crew to carry only a limited number of personal items. Carey, 44, has logged over 3,700 hours in more than 35 different types of aircraft as an Air Force test pilot. He began riding motorcycles at age 13. and today enjoys both on-road and off-road motorcycling. NASA's schedule calls for Space Shuttle Columbia to return on Tuesday, March 12, landing at the Kennedy Space Center at 4:35 a.m. EST. eN
