My arms got tight trying to stay with him, and he pulled away." Langston did end up finishing third, but after tangling with Reed, he never really found the drive that he had the first six laps. After running off the track and crashing, the Red Bull KTM rider pulled back onto the race· course in third about eight seconds behind Brown but could not catch him. Instead, Langston lost ground to Brown, dropping 15 seconds back. "It's very disappointing, because everything seems to be going well, but every time a main event comes, I struggle: Langston said. "I'm not rid· ing my best· I'm tightening up. I need to go back and regroup and fig· ure out what we need to do to correct this problem. I was not feeling good before I crashed, but after 1 crashed, I totally lost my rhythm." Reed, Brown and Langston were clearly in a class of their own at Day· tona. The next·c1osest rider to them was well over 30 seconds behind the trio, and that rider was Team Blimpie Suzuki's Branden Jesseman. Had Jesseman gotten off to a better start, however, most likely things would've been a lot different, because he was awfully fast at Daytona. Jesseman rounded the first lap in 13th place and steadily worked his way up through the pack. He took control of fourth place on the seventh lap after passing Team ECC's Josh Woods, but by that time, Reed, Brown and Langston had long since disappeared into the sunset. Woods held on to fin· ish fifth, ahead of Boost Mobile/Yamaha/Troy Racing's Greg Schnell, Cernics.com/PC World· wide/KTM's John Dowd and MotoworldRacing.com's Andrew Short. Team Blimpie Suzuki's Buddy Antunez and LCR Racing.com's Ryan Clark rounded out the top 10. Even though Reed has won every round so far and has a perfect 100 points in the series standings, Brown is still within striking distance with 84 points. Red Bull KTM's Steve Boni· face, who finished 13th at Daytona, is third with 62. Bv KIT PALMER PHOTOS BV STEVE BRUHN DAYTONA BEACH, FL, MAR. 9 he Eastern Regional 125cc main event could not have gotten off to a more promising start at Daytona, where former World Champion Grant Langston, AMA 125cc National Champion Mike Brown and series points· leader Chad Reed all rounded the first turn unscathed and ready to do battle up front for the next 15 laps. And it would've been a great race had Langston and Reed not tangled on the sixth lap. Their little get·together, while running 1-2, sent Langston fly· ing off the track, and that was all Reed needed to ride away with his fourth consecutive main·event win. "This was my first time racing here at Daytona," Reed said. "I really liked the hard track, the rough tracks, the ruts and the sand. I lived in Europe last year, and where I was living was a lot like this. A lot of people said that, [since] this was my first time at Daytona, they weren't really sure how I was going to do. But I was confi· dent, and I really do enjoy racing stuff like this." After Langston ran off the track and crashed, Reed had the whole race to himself, as he steadily pulled away from Brown, who inherited sec· ond when Reed and Langston got together. Brown tried to hang with Reed but just couldn't keep pace with the super· fast Australian, who took the checkered flag 19.970 seconds ahead of the Team Chevy Trucks/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki rider. "I hung in as far as I could with us three out there," Brown said after posting his third runner·up finish of the series. "I was trying to stay with 'em and stay relaxed for the first cou· pie laps there. Then Langston went down, and I started pushing a little harder to stay with Reed. Then my arms tightened up.
