We all dream of glory for the sake of family,
personal pride, and in the case of the very talented few, financial gain.
"Tonight we are an extended family as we
celebrate and honor the athletic achievements
of the finest racers in our district. Whether you
earned a position in the top 10, or scored
points and got mentioned in the Knobby
News, or simply gave it your all in a particular
rllce. you are all winners in this difficult sport
of motocross. By its very nature, motocross is
an individual sport, but no one achieves good
results without the help and efforts of those
around them who make it happen.
"The creed of the Special Olympics is.
'God, let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be
brave in the attempt.' May you be brave in
your attempts this coming season and every
one thereafter. Strength and honor to you all."
With those words of the keynote speaker,
so opened the celebration called MSC Night.
Nearly 700 people showed up at Anthony's
Pier 9, an upscale catering hall. for the District
34 Awards banquet. While everyone in attendance was a winner of some sort, the top winners of the night were Hunter Yamaha-spon-
sored Terry Finkle. who won both the I 25cc A
and 250cc A-class championships; Mike
Spear. who matched that feat with championships in the Over 25 A and Over
30 A classes; and Kyle Hutson. who also
doubled with titles in the Senior Mini and
Supermini classes.
Dorothy and Eric Guenkel awarded Special
Recognition Awards to their rider Finkle, who
was also rewarded with a check for
for his traditional cup of milk after Terry's finished racing. Jeanine Price, the registrar and
