Pa~terson went underneath Rawls in the stadium section on lap one and Allen passed him there on lap two. Riding smoothly out front, Mann scored the win by five seconds. Allen reeled in Patterson and grabbed second with a midair pass over the finish-line jump as the checkers flew. Boutwell kept the throttle pinned the whole way and placed fourth, ahead of Collins. Patterson scored the 125cc B victory with wins both times out. In both motos, she overcame the holeshot starts of Rawls. After placing outside the top five in race one, Matt Hamilton rode to third in the second fourlap contest and earned third overall. A consistent Jacob Griffith logged the overall win in the 16-rider 80cc D class with 2-1 finishes. Bruce Lee Jr.'s 1-4 score held up for second, and Corey Byrd picked up third with a 5-2 tally. Mid-South Championship Youth Hare Scrambles Series Round 8: The Rattlesnake Run Schoettmer Slithers to Rattlesnake Wins By JEFFREY KETCHUM CROFrON, KY, FEB. 3 or round eight of the Mid-South Youth Series, riders were treated to a new location in the rolling farmlands of Kentucky. A couple of things that stayed the same, however, were the mud and rain of the three previous rounds. The promoters had to move the Youth course because the original trails were too bad for the smaller bikes. The Mini course was a mixture of grass-track and open woods. Cody Schoettmer powered his Polini into the lead and stayed out front the entire 12 laps. Ukewise, Dylan Majors settled into second on the first lap and never gave up that position. With Schoettmer and Majors gone, the rest of the field battled for the remaining three trophy positions. Steven Middlebrook ran in third for half the race until the mud and a stalled engine forced him back. This left the door open for KTM-mounted Logan F cue I ~ (Cob); 5. Zack Goodwin (Kaw). 80 B: 1. P'Pool battled Hayden Stewart and Richard Ward for the next five laps, their positions constantly changing. At the finish, Schoettmer cruised to victory, followed by Majors, P'Pool, Ward and Stewart. The Intermediate and Junior classes ran on a larger course that included a longer woods section that had slick roots and ruts. The Intermediate class lined up 18 riders, and when the green flag fell, Tyler Carter put his Kawasaki up front. Adam Creasor came through the barrels in second after the first lap, but a charging Justin Conners passed him on lap two and set his sights on Carter. Meanwhile, Scott Brannon and Luke Robinson held down the fourth and fifth positions. On lap six, Conners caught and passed Carter for the lead. Creasor kept his Honda in third, and Brannon remained in fourth. Ted Mullins slipped into fifth place, ahead of Robinson. The last lap was exciting, as Carter regained the lead over n e _ s < >- lD ~ :I: C. The Rattlesnake Run: Cody Miller (161) and Chaz Green (11) explode from the starting line at round eight of the Mid-South Championship Youth Hare Scrambles Series, held in Crofton, Kentucky. Conners to take the win. Creasor held on to third after Robinson recovered to claim fourth, and Mullins rounded out the top five. Sarge's Cycies/MSR/Smith/CTijTagsponsored Cody Miller continued his winning ways by taking another first in the Junior class. Miller got a good start and never looked back. Jake Young and Chaz Green battled the first five laps for second place. On lap six, Green crashed hard, breaking off his helmet's visor and cutting his mouth. This allowed Justin Bell to move into third. Green remounted and charged back but was unable to overtake Bell. At the checkers, it was Miller, Young, Bell and Green. Round- ing out the top five was Hondamounted Dillon Fleming. With three rounds left, the points race is tight in all three Youth classes. The series is grateful to Mr. Bill Gusse of the famous "Moose Run, n who attended this event and gave away a set of Moose riding gear at the Youth trophy presentation. Victory SpOrts Indoor MX Winter Series Rounds 9-1 0: West North Carolina Agricultural Center Rolen, Rolen Rollin' By BARBARA WILLIAMS ASHEVILLE, NC, FEB. 8-9 helby Rolen and her brother Kendall, from Blaine, Tennessee, have been minding their own business during the Victory Sports Indoor MX Winter Series. They've ridden every race and have stayed in the shadows of the flashier riders in their classes - Junior Mini, Unlimited Mini and 50cc Shaft. Until now. In the special Women's class on Saturday in Asheville, Shelby dominated; she also turned in a nice ride for fourth in Unlimited Mini competition. And Kendall pulled the 50cc Shaft holeshot on both nights, finishing second only to National champ Tyler McSwain. Currently, Kendall has the series points lead for the Shaft class. S After a record-smashing entry for the Indoor Series kickoff in November, the rider count for this next-tolast weekend seemed off. However, extra divisions were still added in several classes, and there were various special classes on Saturday that aren't regularly counted for series awards. "There's generally a drop-off in participation toward the end of this series," remarked Victory Sports promoter Sam Gammon. "The Clear Channel supercross series starts this weekend. Many of the riders who are way down in the points here go ride somewhere else. And there are already a couple of outdoor series started in the region." But the 50s, 60s and Mini classes have stayed steady, and the competition in them is fierce.
